A little trite and unfeasable, but I can forgive it, perhaps I was in a soppy mood when I watched this, but I liked it

Yes it was predictable, but it was also cute and touching. A good romantic comedy.

Steve Carell treads through pools of sap here as best he can. Feeling like a 90-minute sitcom, the film has found a filmmaking purgatory--it's not a bad movie, but it's not worth a whole lot either. The problem being--I didn't fully know Carell's character or completely sympathize with him because the movie stays safe and lacks any real exploration or new ideas. It makes you smile, but not really laugh, and it has a charm, but you can't fully connect emotionally.

Too soft to be convincing. The family in the film engages in cutesy weekend pasttimes and snapping banter, but it never feels like an actual family. None of the relationships on-screen feel lived in or genuine, and most of very talented actors are idly adrift (including Juliette Binoche, oddly devoid of allure as the object of affection). Only Steve Carell transcends the material, playing a regular guy whose pained life is fraying despite his increasingly tense efforts to keep control.

A chick-flick in disguise.

This entire film made me uneasy. It's not bad for a rental or something, or to catch on network television some day, but by no means make an effort to see this film. Having said that, I think it might be Dane Cook's best film. And Juliet Binoche's worst.

Just an annoying stupid movie about an annoying stupid family. Movies rarely piss me off, but you pulled it off Dan in Real Life. By God, you pulled it off.

A lame movie which adds nothing to the cinematic table, and yet took so much of my time. Unbelievable characters abound, and what is with that FUCKING COP?

Gee, a romantic comedy that features age-appropriate adults who actually act like grown-ups! Who knew? Engaging if predictable.

Sweet, warm, good acted, good written. Steve Carell was not too comical, Juliette Binoche was enough sexy and real. The must ending was as predictible as it should be. Maybe a little bit too much...

I rather liked this. Warm, goodhearted family drama with funny bits.

Its alright. Nice little date movie, that my date enjoyed more then i did. This is not the type of character I really want Steve Carrell playing.

What a horrible, predictable, unlikable film. It seemed to copy the most annoying parts of Meet the Parents while getting weak carbon copies of characters from The Family Stone. Awful, awful film.

Bollocks. Could not care less about ANY of the blasted characters. The "awkward" moments were way too softcore to achieve any kind of rise out of me or sympathy for the pathetic, whiny character. It tries so hard to get you to relate to Carell's harmless personality, but it gets annoying before half of the movie has passed. You frankly want him to stop acting like a bitch. The movie peaks in the first 30 minutes, then it leaves you shot and bleeding for the drawn out remainder. Choking.

Not bad.

It is a film about frustrations, but with a sympathetic tone, sometimes funny, sometimes slightly melancholy and quite balanced in its intentions. Not exactly a creative story, but the presence of Steve Carell and Juliette Binoche leaves the story irresistible.

Yeah, it's good. Norbert Leo Butz is in this movie, and that is awesome. Dane Cook is actually not unbearable.

Fuck this shit. I mean it, this movie was definitely the worst I've have seen this year ... Cheasy lines (and im talking Hugh Grant cheasy), a terrible plot, and a family that was so 'perfect' you could do nothing else but hate it for it seemed like they were spawned from a '50s breakfast serial commercial. I hated everyone of the characters, could the family be anymore stereotypical?... And don't even get me started on the damn acoustic guitar soundtrack. ... yhukky.

Good film.
