Summary: Street dancer Thomas Uncles is from the wrong side of the tracks, but his bond with the beautiful Megan White might help the duo realize their dreams as the enter in the mother of all dance battles. (imdb)
"Aside from a half dozen salient bits that call bull**** on the white-black symbiosis portrayed in films such as Step Up, more times than not Dance Flick falls flatter than Eddie Murphy's butt in Norbit." - Ed Gonzalez
It isn't highbrow -- or encumbered by scruples -- but the Wayanses retain their vulgar, adolescent derision of sex, class and race. In this bow down to Hollywood millennium, their irreverence is almost subversive.
So there are definitley worse 'spoof' films out there (thanks to Friedberg & Seltzer) but this isn't the best work from the Wayans team who have definitley got it right before. Its funny and has a few good moments, but like most spoof films it lacks consistency and a strong storyline and relies more on funny gags and jokes. Some jokes dont work, but overall its entertaining enough and if you don't take it too seriously you will enjoy it, but if you're not a fan of spoof films give it a miss.
For every good gag, there are about twenty that fall flat. That said, Damon Wayans Jr. is actually pretty funny here, and makes a movie that could have been completely bad almost watchably bad.
What was actually a decent premise is dismissed in favor of disgusting jokes that do nothing to serve the plot or film. A few clever moments are outdone by poorly written punchlines, that barely need the elaborate set up they're given.
Not AS bad as Meet The Spartans or Disaster Movie, but that's only because there was nowhere else to go but up from those films. All the jokes are lame, and the film is a complete fail from start to finish. Grade: F
36 times more enjoyable than transformers, with better characters, special effects and fewer plot holes. Yet it was still a disaster. These need to go straight to dvd and they would be fine, as a movie it is terrible but has some fun stuff here and there and is not completely worthless.
