Summary: Married, middle-aged and with children is hardly a recipe for romance, but Tina Fey and Steve Carrell are determined to keep the spark alive in this Shawn Levy-helmed comedy about a date night gone horribly awry. Joining Fey and Carrell in this ensemble cast film are Mark Wahlberg, who plays a securities expert, James Franco as a slightly slow con man and Leighton Meester as the couple's babysitter.
Pretty funny I guess but this like many other comedies left me with a sour taste in my mouth by ending on an earnest and upbeat note. I don't need to be reassured by a goofy comedy that it is possible to stay in love after being married for years. Is that really what people expect when they go to see a comedy?
Date Night isn't really worth watching. At 88 minutes, it's overlong, suffers from pacing problems and isn't very funny. The cast is good, and the cameos throughout are almost good enough to keep you engaged, but sadly, it doesn't succeed in being an entertaining film. Carell and Fey have good enough chemistry together though, and given a better project, I could definitely see them having a successful comedy on their hands.
Better than I thought it would be. Clearly, Carrell and Fey were given a lot of freedom to bring their own jokes and sense of humor into the characters.
Levy is such a poor director, that even a great cast couldn't save his film. Well, for a feature with Tina and Steve, I should have laughed my ass off. Instead, it pissed me off good.
I probably expected a lot more with the leads being Steve Carell and Tina Fey. There are some funny moments but it is bland mostly. There are not many laughs in the movie, some of them are forced.
Slightly funny, but the action was boring as shit. Also, extremely sappy, and in case you've forgotten, (because apparently we all have,) sappy is not funny.
My two favorite actors! This was a must see for me once I saw the trailer. I'm a big fan of both The Office and 30 Rock. I was not dissapointed even though it wasn't the type of "funny" I was expecting. I was expecting non stop hilariously silly funny, what I got was funny and an action flick. Pretty dang good!
