A near-spotless retelling of the Cole Porter story. Judd is great in her role as Linda Thomas, but Kline is really something special playing the lead. The drama of the story is nicely balanced by the upbeat, timeless music, and (despite many critics' assertions to the contrary) the film manages to be a magnificent biopic that, while slow at times, shows the rest of the genre how it should be done.

Charming and quietly understated. BUT - you have to like musical theatre to enjoy this. It is certainly flawed and potentially over-long but it has powerful performances from Kline and Pryce. It has nods to Amadeus in parts (always a good thing) and is worth watching. Some amazing music runs through this study of a great modern composer and lyricist

one of america's greatest songwriters is showcased in a musical featuring all of his own music, that combined with the manner in which his older self reminisces upon his life makes this a truly great movie. every aspect of this movie is simply top notch. this easily ranks up there with the best movies i've ever seen, as for putting it in the best of the musical genre i need not say more.

Features a brilliant performance by Kline and some of the best songs / lyrics of the last century. The movie itself is way too long ... and some how bit a mess.

I liked this film, but do recognize it is flawed. Most significant to me was the over-use of the "Ghost of Christmas Past" conceit to allow Cole to reflect on his own life after the grave. Some great production numbers though. Aand some equally great continuous action camera shots... Those who appreciate musical theatre, though, should catch it...

Very very disappointing. How could a film about one of the funniest and most clever and engaging people in history have ended up so dreary and lifeless?

An intriguing idea for a film - chronicle the life of Cole Porter, a man who loved music, treasured the relationship he shared with his wife, and how hiding his sexuality affected him. Throw in cameos by many of today's well-known artists, and this should be a great film, right? Wrong. I'd rather go to the dentist than watch this grating snoozefest again.
