I feel like I've seen most of the plot in better movies. Still, it had decent acting and some interesting scenes. There just wasn't that much holding it all together.

The main character was a homicidal killer. Clarify that and add some more depth to it's weighty premise. Skip Chris Tucker as well, I found his "comic" relief disturbing to the atmosphere throughout the majority..I thought the direction was especially lazy and took the easy way out an unapologetic amount of times. I got marched on too many times by an endless tirade of strangling cliches to take it too seriously.. good camera and good acting.

Derives its conflict from a sociopathic, 'us VS them' mentality, which lends credence to its violence but also, somehow, makes it more believable. Basically, racism justifies Tate's actions, but I can't figure out if we're supposed to sympathize with him or not. If so, then the film is morally unsound.

A young black man comes home desillusioned and without a job after Vietnam, so he decides to rob an armored truck....

it's not perfect (the big heist scene is confusingly edited, the vietnam parts feel kinda stagey, and a lot of moments are pretty cliched), but this is overall a really well executed, blisteringly angry message picture

Decent crime film.

Mean spirited and grotesquely violent without purpose.

A mess. The heist idea doesn't even come up until the last 40 minutes. Lots of tired Vietnam cliches ("fire in the hole!", "we're in a world of shit"). It seemed like I was being asked to sympathize with the main character, but he totally dug his own grave. The whole thing was just all over the place. Still, nice photography and I think Larenz Tate is a very good, underrated actor. Kickass soundtrack too

There's a handful of well-constructed scenes in "Dead Presidents." Larenz Tate does fine as the lead, but Chris Tucker feels out of place. The Vietnam scenes are mostly unconvincing, but the violence is brutal. Mostly hit and miss, this film ultimately fails to make any real point out of its story. Our lead character commits a terrible a crime and in the end asks for sympathy with no real justification for it, plus a lot of the events feel so by-the-numbers it's hard to buy into much.
