You can play 'count the cliches' watching this movie...

Another variation on a very old theme. Not recommended, but there are some good creepy moments, especially the ending

Hammy ham, ham ham, ham ham - The leads acting. The plot pieces fall into place in a predictable nature, which is excusable as there are jolts for tempo dynamic, floating around in the set-up. Perhaps if I hadn't watched another film from that era recently, I would have been more taken by the final shot.

Sorta like The Stepword Wives meet The Wicker Man.

Uneven but entertaining sickie.

O'Bannon's fascination with embalming and zombies is expressed much darker here than in Return of the Living Dead. An unsettling and unique piece of horror.

Slow burning horror that takes advantage of its sleepy coastal location to build tension and generate scares. It was great to see a fresh take on zombies. Jack Albertson was excellent playing against type as the "mad scientist".

Low-grade shocker. Some of the nightmarish scenes at the end are moderately effective. O'Bannon apparently stated that he did not in fact contribute to the script, and that he agreed to accept the screenwriting credit as a favour to help get the film made. Well it worked, and in addition eventually caused me to rent it from the video store, after thirty years of admiring the cover (VHS then DVD), a cover with absolutely no relation to the film, hence borrowed on pretences that were doubly false.

Good Movie

It's a slow burn for sure, but there were certain sensibilities that kept my interest so I didn't feel as if I needed to keep checking my watch. The final act though is terrific. Probably one of the best climaxes on film. I felt it could have been pushed a little further, but realistically just a nudge.

The tone is a little strange (it goes from creepy and brutal to downright hokey at times) but it has an intriguing premise, some creepy moments, and a neat needing.

I don't know why this movie doesn't get more love. It plays out like a good Richard Matheson story. Sure, it's not the best film ever, but it doesn't deserve to be ignored the way it is.

Really peculiar horror film that unfolds at a deliberate pace, but has one whopper of an ending. Has an appearance by Robert England B.F. (Before Freddy).

some dull acting and hit-or-miss effects, but it's great horror-mystery fun.

cant say i was scared at any point, and it was to slow moving to make the most of what could have been a great story. the idea had some serious potential, but was bogged down by slow plot and overacting on the protagonists part. at least it had some serious atmosphere that counts for something.

Atmospheric and gruesome horror film with a very rememberable ending. Pacing is off, and acting is really over the top. After all, it is just a b-movie. But good at being it.

Fulfilling pulp in the vein of eerie Creepshows and Twilight Zones, Dead & Buried excels as an especially rewarding by movie, rich as it in atmosphere, freakiness and visual panache. It's trash you can't help but like, even if not on par with the swell works of Cohen and Lustig.

An unusual mix of zombies, small-town secrecy and gory murder that unfortunately doesn't always work. That doesn't mean the film is a waste of time: it has a creepy atmosphere, some great (and a few silly) effects, and a very effective ending.
