Meh. Good soundtrack. B-movie crap. I'm all for girl power but a bunch of make-up girls getting all gung-ho about revenge and suddenly breaking out the kung-fu killing skills? The lapdance scene was very creepy and uncomfortable. Endless waffling dialogue so tedious it could only have been real (I can imagine it being transcribed by Tarantino chilling in a bar and listening in on conversations, congratulating himself on his genius). Miss.

If the movie had ended after the first half, it would be a great movie. But it really begins to falter once the second group of girls is introduced and the film is dragged to a screeching halt (no pun intended). Not only are the second group of characters and events less interesting, but the movie actually seems to be more poorly made. Dialog is dumber and the scenes just aren't as engaging. At points it feels like a first year film student attempting to mimic Tarantino.

Without a doubt, a very wild and entertaining ride, once again from the masterful Quentin Tarantino.

Enjoyable as hell during the car chase bits, and I don't have a massive problem with the talky bits really. I think it's cos I went into it knowing it was gonna be like that.

Having seen the Planet Terror shit earlier, I was very doubtful about this one but thank god this one had nothing to do with it. I was neither entartained nor bored until the end but the final car chase was worth waiting for.

Tarantino joins Carpenter as one of the few people that can actually direct Kurt Russell (if you can be bothered to rough the guy up a little, he's actually a great actor), so it's got that going for it. Kind of over the "these characters are cooler than you" school of dialogue, though. When you start rooting for the villain, and booing when the heroes catch a break just because they annoy you, well, that's a pretty good sign you don't actually like a movie very much.

Pointless? Hell no. The point is to entertain, and this does it in spades. Tarantinos dialogue is matched in wit only by Kevin Smith, as far as todays American directors are concerned.

I like it when they talk for 2 hours and THEN something happens.

If you look at it as a take on slashers, you'd be wrong and probably upset; if you look at it as a take on low budget literal grindhouse movies and reflective on 70s/car cinema, then you might get closer to the heart, even if it is Quentin's weakest.

Heart.

My personal favorite Tarantino film. A perfect throwback to Grindhouse film, just better.

Much better than I expected it to be, but I don't think I knew Rosario Dawson was in it before I watched it.

There's a lot of scenes that are just groups of women sitting around talking. Those are boring. But when Kurt Russell shows up, it gets entertaining, funny, and badass. He should've had more screen time.

Death Proof could have probably been fifteen minutes long and just as good as its two hour cut. It's incredibly dull for the large majority of the film, focusing on stupid dialog rather than the only interesting element, Kurt Russel and his car Death Proof, for like an hour and a half. The final scene is pretty well done, and it's very exciting, but it's too little too late. Death Proof could very easily be Tarrantino's worst movie to date.

M: 30/100 S 25/100 Mike: Self-indulgent and boring. I enjoyed the stunt women's section and the ending. Overall, skip it and see Vanishing Point instead. Sophia: The only good thing about this movie is that it got us to finally watch Vanishing Point--which is a seriously awesome film.

Great movie, don't know why Tarantino got so much crap over this film. It's fantastic and perfectly mimics the style he was going for, anyone who didn't like this film obviously doesn't understand the exploitation movies.
