How can you not find space in your heart for a movie that jokes about doing acid, shallowing feces, combining sacrilegious and necrophiliac acts and, of course, killing midgets?
One of the funniest films I've seen in a long time, and I don't know why I didn't think much of it the first time I saw it because I really enjoyed it a lot more second time 'round. Its a film to show you everything that could possibly go wrong at a funeral in the funniest of ways, and who better to do it than the Brits. Stand-out performance was easily Alan Tudyk who supplied the majority of the laughs. Overall if you're in need of a good laugh this is the way to go, I just loved it!
"A strained farce in which lots of one-dimensional Brits converge at the memorial service for their family's patriarch and proceed to act like buffoons." - Nick Schager
I expected this to be crazy, ridiculous and fun. I was wrong. It started off pretty well -some feel-good tunes, some witty lines, some funny scenes, some very British accents. But then, it derailed. The only ridiculous thing about it was its predictability. Every single line, every single gag, every single meaningful funeral speech was so awfully predictable. A farce is at least supposed to be unpredictable, right? After all, the only admirable thing about this one are the British accents.
It's a zany British comedy that fluctuates between laugh out loud funny and mildly amusing. It will interesting to see what an american cast does to it
British humor isn't my forte, but this just isn't that funny... and when I did laugh, it was guilt ridden, and hell knows the plot isn't worth sticking around for. Not worth the time.
Not to be confused with the remake coming out in 2010, this is funny as hell nearly all the way through up until the end when it gets serious, which was ok too. The punchline near the end for the running gag, had me rolling in the aisles. Frank Oz has the touch.
