Marginally funnier than the British version, the film still suffers from a certain laboriousness in the execution of many of the comic set pieces. Also seems a strange film for LaBute to remake so slavishly; aside from the race switch, it plays out identically to the British film. As before, devious Dinklage is the highlight, as well as the toilet scene with the senile uncle, though Glover is not as effective as Vaughn in the original film. Watchable, but a bit of a what-were-they-thinking.

If nothing else this movie shows that Martin Lawrence, believe it or not, can still be something other than completely horrible in a comedy. C+ performance, kudos to you Martin.

This film is a shameful knock off of the original. First off this is a British film they converted to an African American film without changing any of the dialog! That doesn't work! Watch the original 2007 edition!

My projector only has a bulb rated for 4000 hours and it really wasn't worth spending 2 of them. Also to remake a film you must improve something. P.S. My projector cost way less than your flat-screen, even if it's tiny.

Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan compete for being the least funny guy in this weak comedy. The only person able to squeeze half a laugh out of me was James Marsden, but this movie is tragically unfunny.

Luke Wilson: Shame on you for taking this part. Producers: Shame on you for casting many of the actors in this, Martin Lawrence in particular. That man must not work. James Marsden: You did alright but... why? Which is exactly the question you should be asking yourself if you find yourself inexplicably tempted to put this on.

It receives a lot of hate but I'm not sure why. The original is better, and this film doesn't really improve upon it in any way (just makes slight changes that relate more to black America than white UK). I thought Lawrence and Wilson were bad fits for their characters. Tracy Morgan started fine and eventually went more and more into his normal shtick. Besides that the rest of the cast was great and I laughed throughout. Overall, I found it to be a pleasant surprise and worth a watch.

I... I don't know why I watched this. I skimmed past it on Netflix Watch Instantly and some inexplicable psychosis overtook me. It was like an out-of-body experience. Even as I clicked on it I was like "wait, what the hell are you doing?!", then I proceeded to watch all 92 minutes of mediocrity. That said, I must wed Zoe Saldana.

The British original is just that tad bit better, but this is a very amusing remake that stays true to the original. The cast is great with everyone perfect for their roles, lead by Chris Rock & Martin Lawrence as grieving Brothers who have lost their Father. It was an interesting choice remaking a film so close to the original, but it's paid off well as now a wider audience gets to see this hilarious film. Overall well worth watching for plenty of great laughs, but the original is better ;)

Despite a few more laffs than the British original, the cast seems to be operating on auto-pilot--the sort of regular clownishness that lets director Neil LaBute make his standard implication that nothing in (black) American life is to be taken seriously.

A nearly scene-by-scene American remake of the 2007 British comedy does a good job translating the original's absurd, screwball high-jinx for an American audience--though that doesn't translate into funny.

The American remake, a scant three years after the British version, is tantamount to a summer-stock production in Cleveland, a black comedy made over into a black comedy, or more distinctly a dark comedy made over into an African-American comedy. Who could ever have foreseen that LaBute, the contemporary cinema's iciest misanthrope, would stoop to poop jokes to bring down the house? Among the few white faces in the crowd, dinky Dinklage reprises with total authority his role from the original

This horrible excuse for a remake is quite possibly the worst remake I've ever seen. I'd rather watch the Keanu Reeves remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still a hundred times in a row than watch these inept actors struggle to replicate the exceptional performance of the original cast. Chris Rock, Luke Wilson, shame on you. Even the little person who was in the original didn't perform as well as he did the first time. You'd think that he would be better, having done it before. AVOID THIS.

+ good: funny throughout, all the characters roles were balanced and funny in their own unique way, no one person stole the show, well paced, actors were natural (wasn't forced except Tracy), didn't push the race thing; - bad: Tracy Morgan, I can't stand him, he tries too hard and isn't funny (but fortunately there were so many other good players he didn't totally detract from the film; final speech was transitioned poorly

Comedy about a dysfunctional family that gathers for the funeral of the family patriarch which turns into a full-scale fiasco. Potty mouths, potty jokes, and dotty performances are the chief selling points... alternately sidesplitting and poop-splattered... Verdict? Mixed. Loved the slapstick, winced at the toilet humor, and mourned that the female performers were given so little to do.

Some really funny moments ... but surrounded by pretty typical farce ... which dilutes the humour. What makes you laugh in the first 30 minutes is repeated throughout, and, unfortunately, it just doesnt make you laugh after 90 minutes Zoe Soldana is worth investing the 90 minutes for, though !

Even if I've never found Rock, Lawrence, or Morgan to be all that hilarious, the movie should be about the farce, and the chaos of events that take place. But I never found myself included in the mayhem. I observed one-note characters and a handful of big-name actors going through the paces of tired situational comedy, and I didn't buy any of it. Not one plot turn or gag had enough shock, surprise, or wit to fuel my interest, and so this remake left me feeling decidedly blah to the core.
