Bit redundant after seeing "Murder on the Orient Express" which didn't blow me away either. A less engaging version of the aforementioned film.

Following in Albert Finney's footprints, Ustinov perpetuates the corpulent screen image of master detective Hercule Poirot, but this balloon-like inflation (nearer to Nero Wolfe) will be a bother only to the most fanatical followers of Christie, the queen of the "who cares?" whodunit. In this one, the murder is more than an hour in coming, as motives for the crime are moved into place with all the laboriousness and boredom that must have gone into constructing the Great Pyramids.

Not bad, but Murder on the Orient Express is a better story and has a better cast. I prefer Finney's Poirot to Ustinov's too.

Poirot is really fun throughout the film. The mystery itself is interesting, but nothing especially sensational (I would venture to say it's even a bit silly). The acting is all-around good, and it takes the time to introduce us to its colorful cast before the titular death.

Nowhere near as good as MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS; Ustinov actually plays Poirot for laughs. Good-looking, but that's where it ends.

A fun little Holmesian murder mystery. Seems very cliché in this day and age (such as in the final scene where the detective tells how it happened), but it's amusing. I bet 50something women would love it.

An Agatha Christie adaptation in dire need of a more pronounced sense of humor. There's some remarkable cinematography to help its standing but the plot gets more ridiculous [yes, even from this source] then I care for. What an ending, though.

Death on the Nile is a lot of fun from start to finish, enhanced largely by the beautiful lensing and the interesting, if somewhat silly plot. The performances range from cartoonish to subtle, with Lansbury, Smith and Ustinov taking the best lines and laughs.

Peter Ustinov is, as usual, stellar in the title role, and the rest of the acting talent is exceptional. (Farrow, Lansbury, Niven, Bette Davis, etc.) However, this one often feels quite slow and unsubstantial until the very end. Decent, but nothing special.

A faithful interpretation of the book. Very much Ustinov at his best as Poirot (although in my mind he has since been overtaken by Suchet). Rich and impressive cast providing a classic Christie whodunnit, Some great acting and touches of dark humour. Good of its kind.
