Great turn by Bette, and absolutely mesmerizing performance by Rains (one of the best I've ever seen). John Collier had to have written the protracted dinner scene...as well as the one where Rains is lounging in his bed reading the paper (not to mention the Drawrof ad!).

Tremendous fun--two no-holds-barred, over-the-top performances (Davis and Rains) and one serviceably bland one (Henreid), fabulous sets, some deliciously purple writing, and a wonderful score by Erich Korngold. This is the sort of movie that gives melodrama a good name!
