I very much liked this, but why does Hollywood think all we need is a mate? I think I would love to see a movie where the bitter, fucked up misanthrope stays that way.

A very promising first half, a very sappy and frustrating second half. I thoroughly enjoyed Henry's views on life though, especially "life is nothing but the occasional burst of laughter rising above the interminable wail of grief". I'm also gonna try his heavy-books-on-the-chest approach to anxiety control in the near future.

The score was annoying but Crudup and Moore both turned in good performances. Theroux seemed to be going for a different type of rom-com, but the odd flourishes didn't do much for me.

The whole misanthropic, oddball guy meets cute girl and re-evaluates his life, etc. thing is pretty done already, so this doesn't exactly have that going for it. Still, the script isn't pretty good, and it's elevated by a good performance by Crudup, and of course Wilkinson is always good. Also, Mandy Moore is not a bad actress, and she sure is fun to look at. I like Justin Theroux, and I'd say this is not a bad directorial debut for him, even if it's not amazing by any stretch.

Pretty sure I will ever write this following sentence again... "Billy Crudup stole the show". I am assuming that his complex character had some sort of OCD but all his little antics were at times funny and at other times I guess a little sad. A bonus point for Mandy Moore appearing but she really just plays in the background to Mr. Crudup. The final end is a bit far fetched and stupid, but the bathroom scene before the end is pretty solid. Maybe I should try to watch another B-Crud movie.

Tried really hard to be a different kind of romantic comedy, but fell into the same cliche traps as every one before it. I happen to be a fan of Mandy Moore and Billy Crudup, but didn't see much of what makes them great in this. Justin Theroux should keep directing, however, but try a different genre next time.
