Fails to impress in a b-movie way and it was clear from the start it's not an a-movie either.

Straightforward monster film, with little imagination or novelty, featuring the cast being picked off one by one. It's not particularly scary, but it does have a fast pace, and Treat Williams does a good job as the lead. I liked the one image of the Asian lady on the luxury liner being attacked by the monster from beneath the toilet she was sitting on! Beyond that, it's highly forgettable and generic. Mediocre fare.

Had the potential of being awesome b-movie but gets there only few times.

I remember being impressed with the effects and creature designs when I first saw this one and seeing it about 13 years later, they held up fairly well. As for the rest ... it would have been interesting to see how this would have turned out with Harrison Ford and bigger budget as originally planned. Treat Williams is more like a sitcom dad than an action hero, delivering one-liners instead of doing cool stuff. In a way, it felt like a practice run-through for the Mummy, Sommers' next movie.

I stayed awake for the whole thing. Good for me.

A fun entry in the subaqueous-monster subgenre. While this (like dozens of other modern monster movies) obviously owes a major debt to _Alien_, Sommers and crew imbue the bloody proceedings with sufficient spirit to make the scares and laughs play relatively fresh. Jerry Goldsmith's full-throated score adds a pulse-pounding aural dimension.

Jesus god this movie is brain poison. Starts off interesting enough, but quickly devolves into something appropriate for a sci-fi channel original.
