Summary: Delgo, an adventurous but naive teenager, must rally his group of friends to protect their world from conflict between the Lockni and Nohrin people.
I might be more willing to forgive some of the awful voice acting and the straight-forward plot of the movie if it was at least interesting to look at, but this might be the most poorly animated CGI film I've ever seen. Character designs are bland, they move listlessly, and backgrounds are over-saturated in bloom lighting. It's just ugly. A damn shame this was Anne Bancroft's final project. She didn't deserve to go out like this.
Well though out, if not cliché, story. The intentional 'off' colouring and lighting make the story just that much more entertaining. A deep feeling of destabilization persists throughout the film due to it. Very well done!
The problem with Delgo isn't that it's really bad per se but that it is completely and utterly unremarkable in every regard. The art direction isn't particularly creative, the animation is lackluster, the dialog is cliche, the plot isn't interesting and the cinematography feels so uninspired and generic it frankly bores one to tears. Again nothing is particularly horrible it's just that everything is so mediocre it becomes bad. Kudos if you can make it through the film, I sure couldn't.
Shockingly it's not quite as mind numbingly terrible as I had been lead to believe. Sure the voice acting isn't good and the one dimensional plot is absolutely horrible, but it does have some redeeming features. Some visual aspects of it are pretty good, with some surprisingly creative creatures appearing in the background throughout the film. However, the same can't be said for the much less appealing humanoid characters. Overall it's just about watchable. Bad, but I've seen worse.
