It gets a lot of the science right. Unfortunately, it could use a little more imagination, and ends up pretty dull and too concerned with scientific explanation (including a Woody Woodpecker cartoon). There are a couple of intriguing/exciting scenarios but even those are undercut by Dick Wesson, playing a "Joe Six Pack" character who comes along as a last minute replacement for one of the crew. Wesson's dumb Brooklynese comments are real groaners. This movie ought to have been a lot more fun.

A plodding science fiction adventure from the time when merely having a rocket ship in a movie was expected to maintain enough interest in an audience that other niceties of filmmaking--you know, like character and plot--could be safely set aside to be used by some movie that didn't perform the impossible feat of bounding across the stars. Legendary science fiction author Robert Heinlein was a integral contributor to the screenplay, which may explain why the details at least seem fairly sound.

It totally shows that Heinlein was one of the writers on this one. A reasonably good series of guesses about what travel to the moon would end up being like, plus it's a just plain entertaining sf adventure story

Years before 'Apollo 11' would actually land man on the moon, Heinlein & Pichel made 'Destination Moon', which, except for minor scientific inaccuracies (some of which wouldn't be known as inaccurate or effete until later), is a pretty darn roadmap of how man can reach the moon, already taking into account the aspirations which existed around the idea at that time.

Even though the sets are dated today, they were what scientists expected to find when people did land on the moon. This film boasts the classic pointed spaceship and bubble helmets on the space travelers, but it is still great fun for fans of the genre.

Probably the only serious drama to start with a full length Woody Woodpecker cartoon. Beyond this it still manages to be entertaining enough, despite the fact it has obviously aged quite badly. The one thing that stands out are the potential ideas put forward of how man could achieve what was then nothing more than a future aspiration, many of which are surprisingly close to the technology that lead man to the moon almost two decades later. Another decent but slightly creaky old sci-fi.
