A well told story with great effects, especially for that time. I'm a big fan of Fritz Lang and have enjoyed M and Metropolis and I thoroughly enjoyes this well crafter story as well. This is a movie I wouldn't mind watching again.

Enjoyable despite its flaws. Ambitious in scope and littered with magical visuals, the period decor is wonderful. But in each story the film relies on caricaturization; the Arabs are religious fanatics, the Venetians tragically romantic, and the Chinese practitioners of Oriental voodoo. It may be too thematically simple to justify such brazen spectacle, but at least its interesting.

One of the cooler depictions of the grim reaper on screen, although a healthy dosage of stereotypes cost it some points with me. Some really outstanding shots and imagery, but not always spectacular story wise. Still a very interesting and ambitious film worth seeing.

Up there with Lang's best. It's a beautiful and haunting story of love and death, told in a very interesting and creative way that always keeps the story moving and the viewer interested. The images and camera tricks are amazing and the score is very appropriate, contributing to a very surreal atmosphere.

A really interesting premise with some odd but fascinating sets. This is cleary a really ambitious movie and it usually works. Probably my favourite Lang movie because when it works, it really really works, and that allows me to overlook the very slight failures. Plus, it entertained me more than his other movies I've seen.

Technically impressive, but thematically and narratively a bit too predictable, too flat. Still really good, albeit some way from the higher highs and consistent high level of Metropolis, M and the Mabuse movies.

Full of magic, spectacle and atmosphere. Some marvelous camera tricks and memorable imagery, with a very unusual and intriguing narrative structure. And yet, the movie wasn't that engaging, but maybe that's just because I was feeling sleepy.
