Well made, underappreciated neo-noir. Good acting, especially Don Cheadle as the psychopathic Mouse ("You know how to get a nigger paid!"), and a genuinely scary Tom Sizemore. Moving story about love, betrayle and racial prejudice in Los Angeles.

Remember sorta liking it.

Excellent film. Denzel was solid as always and everyone else gave solid performances. Specifically, Don Cheadle was a whirlwind of crazy. He comes into the movie and the movie kicks into high gear and then as soon as everyone is dead, Don flies away. Awesome.

Generally satisfying neo-noir. I don't know if it's possible for Washington to give a bad performance, if nothing else he can coast on pure charisma. Cheadle makes a lasting impression with very little screen time. The script falls a bit short, Chandler-esque in construction but lacks compelling dialogue. However, it keeps you watching. Technically the film is quite strong, evoking the feel of a classic noir while maintaining a modern sensibility. It didn't blow me away, but it's a solid movie.

solid nigra-noir with a sensitive performance from terry kinney.

Enjoyable, 'black' noir. Great performance by Denzel. Others are spottier, and the story could be less confusingly told, but it mostly works anyway. The subtext of race and racism is very interesting.

Not as good as I was hoping, but definitely watchable.

It might have been good, but really it is not. It is too ordinary.
