Really not funny or clever or charming at all. Another reason why Lubitsch is one of the "classic" directors whose work I mostly can't stand

lubitsch's fairy tale is charming with all its outright fakeness and also shows us a bit of the spicy sense of humor that is a trademark of the director. at the same time, i found the story so sweet and innocent that it touched me, even though it was totally unreal (which was the proposal of the movie, so it's not a problem at all).
