Summary: Doctor Dolittle is a world-renowned veterinarian who speaks a wide array of animal languages. He sets off from his home in Puddleby-on-the-Marsh, England, in search of the Great Pink Sea Snail. In so doing, he and his friends meet such exotic creatures as the Pushme-Pullyu and the Giant Moon Moth. This musical is the source of the hit song, "If I Could Talk To The Animals." (imdb)

A great film, and much better than the shitty remake. This one is truer to the source material both in content and spirit.

A long film that drags slightly, but Rex Harrison and his famous speaking singing voice take us into a make believe job with a fun adventure to follow. Whilst Doc Dolittle is a Musical, there were very few songs that were memorable, but the animals and adventure provide the biggest attraction.

Loved it when I was young. Now I look back, it's just plain weird.

Must be seen in the original widescreen to be appreciated at all -- perhaps that's why I disliked it the first time but found it rather charming and wonderful on DVD. It's hard to dislike a big musical where the only intimate love song is sung to a seal. Lots of color, Harrison delivers a wistful performance, great scenery. . . hardly the greatest thing since sliced bread but it didn't deserve to flop at the box office.
