I really enjoyed this First National horror flick! It's not top shelfs material, but quite enjoyable nonetheless. And in 2-strip Technicolor! And with cannibalistic and mad doctors storyline, it had to be great! And the suspense when everyone was in that sci-fi lie-detector really made it along with enough creepy professors to fulfill anyones horror needs. Fay Wray was hot and with Lee Tracy as the outsider lead for comic relief one get an fairly satisfying thrilling experience.

The horror part of this one is quite good (even though the camera doesn't get out of the house much). Unfortunately we have to put up with the pratfalling shtickiness of the protagonist. Fay is beauteous throughout (somewhat resembling Maureen O'Sullivan). And give my regards to the art director/DP, for some great sets and that overall cool 2-tone look. An especial highlight was the transformation of an unrecognizably young Preston Foster into the monster toward the end ("Syn-thetic flesh!...").

The failed comedy can't take away from the kitchen sink approach for this horror film. The 2-strip technicolor is enthralling with the lurid mix of underlying sex and violence oozing out of every frame. Highly recommended.
