Great sense of Realism here, awesome choice of footage to let moments of Bob Dylan speak for themselves. Reflects Dylan's philosophy on songwriting in a way

Fantastic examination of an artist who "offers no solutions." Drags slightly in a couple of places. Dylan's standoffs with his interviewers are brilliant.

This movie is for Bob Dylan fans only. If you're neutral or even somewhat against him, in any way, this movie offers absolutely nothing for you. This is classic Dylan delivering his genius in music, art, politics and always knowing just what to say, while staring down the media and anyone who else that harshes on his groove.... ya dig man?

Not being a huge Dylan fan I was hoping for some insights into the guy, but this semi-documentary came up short. Dylan even comes off as a douchebag in most of his interviews. Has some nice shots, but an equal amount of muddy and dark ones. Apart from a nice look at the time period, this was nothing special.

Pennebaker basically follows Dylan with a loose camera inside hotel rooms in UK with boring journalists -- they don't really ask real questions, so Dylan doesn't really give them real answers -- and captures his conversations with his crew and friends. Its simplistic, one-sided look -- that pictures the subject as a lazy young singer-songwriter who doesn't seem to know what he's doing or what message he's delivering -- might be seductive, but hardly insightful. All classy, though.

Invisible camera guy is following Dylan and his equally interesting to look at entourage through hotel rooms and venues on his UK tour. There is not much performance footage, no real interviews, just Dylan being an asshole towards journalists or Dylan chatting with his friends. I am certain everyone would look stylish filmed on B&W 16mm film with whirling camera, but when you get some interesting people on your scope, it is an instant hit.

Funnily enough, the Donovan scene was one of my favourites; it was so sweet how he selflessly cheered everyone up. I had no idea about the competition between them.

Enjoyable and occasionally interesting, with a few sparkling moments. On the whole, however, I just didn't feel any greatness. Maybe if you're really into Dylan or the era in general, but to me it was just another fly on the wall documentary, though certainly a well made one.

This is a highly heretical opinion for a man who's always been a classic-rock fan, but I have never been into Bob Dylan. On top of that, in this movie he comes across as an obnoxious little shit that I'd like to bitchslap right into next week. I've seen a lot of these rock documentaries but this one has to be the one that bored me the most

Donovan sings a nice little song, and then Dylan viciously slays him with "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." I almost felt bad for the tyke.

An odd moment in time when teenage girls screamed outside of Dylan's hotel windows and the world of pop music was driven to extraordinarily creative heights by the competition between budding artists. Dylan and Donovan square off with guitars in a hotel room and the mix of pride, envy and veiled one-upsmanship is fascinating. There are also reminders that it is in the end a business that they'll operating in. It's groundbreaking work delivered with the plain power of unadorned observation.

Not much to say about this, really. Interesting "fly on the wall" material, although Bob Dylan is most likely playing it up for the camera a bit. I was pleased that there wasn't too much performance footage. I love Dylan's music, but I didn't want to see a concert film.
