Interesting, but minor and distractingly bad special effects.

"Doodlebug" is an atmospherical and inspired take on insanity.

It's a nice idea, but very poorly executed. The barely-there special effects cheapen what could have been a neat little fantasy, but instead it just comes across as studenty and amateurish.

It's a man squashing a man who is squashing a man. Seems that many of Nolan's films take place within something that takes place with something that takes place within somewhere. But really, it is unremarkable bullshit.

I'm a huge, huge Nolan fan, but nothing about this indicates the vast reservoir of talent that the future director of Memento, Inception, and the new Batman franchise would reveal himself to have.

An undeniably studenty short, with lamentable acting and a trying-too-hard approach to the look and sound. Seems pretty useless, but the corny conceit of the ending should at least put a smile on your face. So early that it oughn't to be taken seriously as part of Nolan's professional oeuvre.

Seeing this early film by Nolan really illuminates what goes on in his mind. He has a knack for complex, intriguing ideas and an instinct for atmosphere. Only here, these things are only slightly hinted at. The movie just isn't very good. Poor effects, cheesy, and predictable. I guess every great director has to start somewhere.
