Good thing the doc explains EVERYTHING TO YOU AS IT HAPPENS IN LONG BORING MONOLOGUES or else I'd have been totally lost.

A flawed, pale echo of its campy classic predecessor. It kind of hits all the beats it needs to, I suppose; every fifteen minutes you're treated to some sort of outlandish murder. It just seems a lot more aimless, and it doesn't wind up making any sense by the end. It could have used a little more effort in the plot cohesion department, which I realize sounds very silly to say about something called Dr. Phibes Rises Again.

Lacks most of the magic, camp and mystery of the original. Price phones it in... literally.

Dynamite horror cast, yet quite dull

Took it to the next level as any great sequel would do. The deaths are even more clever and demented. Good show Vincent.

Nowhere near as good as the original; Phibes's motivations for the killings are pretty thin and senseless, and the killings themselves are more graphic (not a plus from Freder's point of view). The bad doctor talks way too much (mostly to explain the action, which says to me that the thing was tampered with in post-production). It does give Phibes a strong opponent in the form of Quarry, and the production design is terrific.
