One word: Amazing! Refn got the blues! And he knows how to create a fantastic movie. The story kept me from the first minute.
"Drive" is grim, brutal and nihilistic. Nietzsche would´ve loved this one.

A balanced written script. It's not the depth of the script (really it has'n any), it's the pace, the gloomy style, ditto music, sudden short violent peaks and acting that does it.

An electric, blood-drenched neo-80's-style crime drama that MUST be seen in high-def, and with booming sound. The script is uncannily quiet, and straightforward; but the music and visuals are sure, strange, and menacingly beautiful, and the performances by Gosling, Mulligan, Perlman and (especially) Brooks resonate powerfully.

Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. I liked it at first. I liked that it took its time & felt reasonably realistic. I liked the soundtrack & score. I liked Ryan Gosling and Bryan Cranston. I liked that it wasn't too 'Hollywood'. The third act, however… I don’t feel like I understood all the characters’ motivations all that well. It became pretty predictable. I really liked the gory & brutal violence at first. Then it just kept happening & it passed over the line into gratuitous.

I was going in tentatively expecting a genre exploration that would lend a Michael Mann template some heart and wry self-awareness, and although I would be more than happy to settle for that, I was delighted to experience a sparse but intelligent character-driven film textured with, and grounded in, the language of dozens of past great films - I was put in mind of the absurdly violent, defiantly romantic abstract-worlds of Lynch and Cronenberg. Beautifully pared down to its sweet, absurd soul.

FUCK RYAN GOSLING! YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THAT HANDSOME AND THAT CHARMING WITHOUT USING WORDS! AND YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO GIVE TOOTHPICKS TO LITTLE KIDS! Gosling's unnamed character is like the opposite side of the same coin that NCFOM's Anton Chigurh is cut from. They're stoic, mysterious, unstoppable, driven; except, Gosling is an unquestionable force of good and uses a Chevy Malibu instead of a pressurized cow gun. They even walk away from a seemingly fatal wound! The film honors and turns-on-its-head those terrible hero films from the 80s that Al Brooks' character alludes to - ones that I can't even name yet know they existed. Fantastic!

Very decent performances along with a very weak plot and storyline. Some of the music was also really poor. Pacing also was too slow in several scenes. Just hated the ending with too much left to your imagination. This movie would probably have been better if it had better direction and editing. A couple good action scenes and some very tense and memorable moments.

Perhaps the thing I liked best about this film is the soundtrack which is endlessly refreshing. Very stylish film and amazing acting. While the story is entertaining the first time around, it actually isn't very special and doesn't have a lot of lasting appeal. The rest of the film does however, definitely worth a watch.

Drive is a film unlike many that you'll see in this day and age. It's also a lot smarter than you'll initially give it credit for, which is always a plus. While it has long stretches where not much goes on -- those expecting a pure action film will leave disappointed -- the third act is very crazy, and the performances are solid throughout. This is a film that's difficult to get out of your head, and is one of those movies that everyone should see, whether you're in the target audience or not.

It isn't an original story, you have seen it before. The regular guy tuned badass. But this one feels a little different. Everything is a little slicker. A little more on edge. The directing is unique (the entire first car chase barely shows a shot from outside the car, only interiors and shots of Gosling) and although a are a few awkward slow motion shots the overall feel of it is pretty amazing. The cast is great across the board but I was particularly impressed with Cranston and Brooks.

We are introduced to Gosling, as our nameless protagonist, in the slick night of urban California where the pavement glows under neon lights and the spotlights of police helicopters. The hero is soft spoken, wearing a shiny vintage jacket without a hint of irony and boiling beneath the surface with the capability of unflinching psychotic violence. A film about the warmth found within such a person in a city where even litter is painted gold by the beauty of the setting sun.

"Drive" could have been an average revenge flick, but Refn's unique style and Gosling's ultra-cool persona turn it into a gritty and visceral thrill ride. The script is strictly standard-issue, but the Cannes-awarded Refn's careful attention to shot composition, a pulsating synthetic soundtrack, Gosling's prowess as well as strong supporting roles for Cranston and Brooks make up for it. Although I had complaints with the ending, "Drive" fully sucked me into its vivid, nightmarish world.

Dating Tip #1 - never, I repeat NEVER stamp on a man's head until it explodes in front of the woman you are trying to woo. Never!
Apart from that sage relationship advice I would also like to recommend this film. An excellent start with a tense getaway showing off the main character's poise under pressure and the fact that he's a man of few words. Didnt rate the end too much but everything in between gets a thumbs up in this tale of a man getting involved in a dodgy heist
