Corny hollywoodesque scenes (specially the last one), but in my opinion, this is much better than Gone With the Wind, another Selznick product. Gregory Peck once said that Vidor left the picture because of all the producer's interferences. I can't tell exactly how many directors finished the movie then. Oh, by the way, the Technicolor looks great sometimes, but it's not in the Powell/Pressburger level.

Fun and interesting even if it's got a pretty large array of problems. The acting is all over the place, the technicolor is pretty but really in your face and the film is much longer than it has to be. Even so the characters are intriguing and the star studded cast is enjoyable to watch.

Nobody dies like Lillian Gish. If you're in the right mood, this over-the-top Lust in the Dust soaper is a lot of fun, but beware of the roadshow version which is just endless and interminable.

This is a romance unlike any you've ever seen before. It's one of those passionate love/hate things that can utterly destroy you if you let it - & this film provides the quintessential example. Jennifer Jones is glorious. She completely runs away with the movie. Joseph Cotten & Gregory Peck are great, too.

Fun in a campy way, kind of an over-the-top Western take on Gone With the Wind (complete with Butterfly McQueen playing another subservient halfwit). There's an awful lot of scenery-chewing, especially by Jones but Barrymore and Gish are guilty as well. And Gregory Peck... the more I see him, the more I think he's a shitty actor. The standout is Joseph Cotten, just because Cotten is always awesome. This is in many ways a pretty "bad" movie, but it is enjoyable and the Technicolor looks purty.

Joseph Cotten & Gregory Peck are two of my favorite actors. The storyline is great, the acting is great, but it's a bit long.

I truly wish this had been better, as I'm a big Gregory Peck fan. But this doesn't do him justice and instead wastes his acting talents. He does what he can but the shallow and sappy plot just aren't up to par.

Hugely enjoyable for absolutely all the wrong reasons. A bloated, hysteric, frenzied and erotically hypercharged melodrama worth all its lurid acclaim. Perfect template for drinking games (say, a shot of mescal for everytime Peck looks horny, or, if you're feeling ambitious, everytime anyone overacts. Cheers).

An absolutely ridiculous film. But the cast is so damn good you can't help but love them, particularly Peck, Gish, and Barrymore.
