Odd, offbeat drama can't make up its mind at what level it wants to be pitched -- Mills' leering at White's plunging neckline seem at odds with the 50s era naivety of the opening scenes; the chase scene around the farm has a troubling rape-fantasy feel that again feels at odds with the Ealing comedy tone that precedes it. Final descent into shattering violence is also disorienting. However, Mills' quite brilliant performance makes you wish it was put to service in a more consistent screenplay.

A tonal mess. Starts off like Beauty and the Beast, teeters into grooming Lolita until it swerves to Benny Hill sex romp territory and ends on Psycho. Except that it’s quite terrible on all fronts. Characters have on and off switches for being endearing and morally deprived.
