Any Disney movie where the weeks old protagonist drinks clown juice, trips balls, goes on a murder spree and ends up in a tree is fine in my book. I suppose the murder spree is only implied, but it happened. There is a change in Dumbo in those scenes afterwards. That ice cold look in the eyes one only gets after having watched someone's life slip away while in the deathgrip of your murdertrunk. ...Or maybe it's just time I take my medication again.

It admittedly has a problem with racist and (arguably sexist) stereotypes and the ending is way too abrupt, but it's an overall cute and heartwarming film told in a concise and simple manner. It also has "Pink Elephants on Parade", probably the greatest single scene that Disney has ever made, a surreal, experimental, fourth-wall breaking sequence that's decades ahead of it's time. It's completely unnecessary story-wise , but I am so glad it exists.

The sheer magnificence of the Pink Elephant Parade makes up for the jive-talkin' crows. Perhaps a bit uneven, but a wonderful Disney classic nonetheless.

Before the formula set in, they were brave and quirky. The drunken dream sequence was unreal. It is a bit short; but I wish this method instead of the operette/princess version took hold in future versions of the Disney movies; they would be much more enjoyable.

Fluffy piece of fun designed to cheerfully pass an hour, given an extra shot of magic by virtue of its filtering through the sensibilities of Golden Age Disney - not much here in terms of plot or characterisation (BAMBI feels like WAR AND PEACE by comparison) but its gorgeous animation and upbeat spirit compensate - there's something to be said for entertainment that has no pretensions except to make you feel warm and fuzzy! Mid-film mother-son reunion is the highpoint - and is genuinely moving.

Heart-warming Disney movie. However, the movie's strong point isn't the lyrics or dialog, but the animation. And on that tangent, what the hell did the clowns put in the beer?

How is this still a classic? Maybe it was 30 years ago. We've come so much further in quality storytelling today. For one thing, Dumbo is really short. For another, it's a bit racist. Then the all-too-perfect ending, wrapping up everything without any "good" explanation why humans can suddenly understand this mouse (who acts as Dumbo's Manager in the newsreel closing), how they were able to get Dumbo's mother loose...that stuff made the flying elephant part easy to believe in comparison.

Mistakes - 1) The letter "D" on Dumbo's flag changes color from blue to black throughout the pyramid scene. 2) When Mr. Stork is on the cloud and he looks down on Florida, you can see the cloud through his beak.

(2014-15 Disneython #4:) This seems to be an all-time classic for many (Pixar's John Lasseter has called it his favorite film of all time), so I hope I'm not history's worst monster for thinking it was just pretty decent. It's so short it has little time for depth, Dumbo is barely a character, and racist crows. This isn't to say that it isn't nice to look at and occasionally moving, with the gentle musical montage of the mother animals with their children being quite emotional.

The story can be surprisingly sad at points, but the whole acid trip scene was pretty weird, then the story just sort of awkwardly wraps itself up immediately afterwards. I think it should have drawn things out a little longer to properly tell the story.

Not a big fan of this one. I mean, Dumbo himself and his relationships with his mother and Tim are cute, sure. But the story (which arguably never earns its mean streak) is bare bones, and the movie's stand-out sequence (the one with the pink elephants) is not my jam.

Dumbo must be something like a box of rare jewels for any real animation fan and its childish plot is not a problem at all. As to the famous pink elephants parade sequence, it's simply the grace of God descending on you, and it can be only compared to something like a Charlie Parker solo for a music fan. Just as a bonus, it's the only Disney film where I actually liked the musical numbers.

Dumbo might not hold up to modern standards but it still is a good film. The story of a mother's love is a wonderful story for the intended audience. I didn't find the crows as offensive as I remember them being but the song that the men sing while putting up the tent is definitely one the deserves to stay in the past. I found the drunken hallucination pretty funny from a modern perspective but it was also visually stunning, especially in 4K. It's a great movie with a perfect pace.

For an animated flick that's more mid-length than full feature, it sure does pack in quite a lot -- tearjerker story of the mother and son, hallucinatory drunk scene of an infant animal, misanthropy, gymnastic elephants, jive-talking crows. It all fits together well and although the film falls a little after it's peak with the heart-punching "Baby of Mine" song, it's still very cute and so damn simple, yet so damn effective.

Dumbo is a real Disney classic. It's fun, cute, and really short. The main problem is the scene where Dumbo goes to see his mother who is locked away. The scene is sad, and the music makes it kinda boring, and it seems like it's taking up too much of the film. Still, thanks to some highly entertaining crows, it's one of the Disney movies that will forever be remembered. Pretty good!

An absolute gem. Short and beautifully crafted with excellence in every frame. This is perhaps Disney's most underrated classic. But a more lovable movie the studio did not make. Sweet--and I mean that in the best sense. If any child were to see but one animated film this would be the one I recommended. A wonderful score and the Pink Elephants fantasy section is unrivaled as dream scene in any movie. Sometimes the best things do come in small packages. This is film to treasure.

Heartfelt kid's film told with impressive economy, Dumbo is a timeless, extremely well crafted artifact from Disney's golden age. The Pink Elephants on Parade sequence remains a fantastic piece of pop surrealism, anticipating Alice In Wonderland 10 years earlier, and the scene where Dumbo reunites with his captive mother is unusually tender and moving for a film of this type. The animation itself is more simplistic than Fantasia, but it's lovingly rendered, and Dumbo is an adorable character.

Dumbo is one of few Disney classics that underwhelmed me as a child and I don’t look back at it with any particular sense of nostalgia or sentiments. There is no doubting that emotionally Dumbo pulls on the hartstrings of all ages. But both the dialogue and songs are completely forgettable and it’s the animation that captures the heartbreak of this story. The drunk sequence is jarring, bizarre, far too long and it confused me as a child and still does now. Dumbo just has its moments.

Even though I'm normally sensitive about this sort of thing, the blatant (but not really mean-spirited) racism doesn't scare me away. I mean, yeah, it's messed up and I wouldn't show this movie to my kids until they're old enough to understand why it's messed up, but for some odd reason it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of the rest of the movie. It's all about the animation. Really, Dumbo is a technical piece above all else, but WOW. I'd actually say it's more impressive than Fantasia.

Dumbo is treated as an outcast because of his large ears, yet in spite of that his mother loves him. He later meets a rat that helps him makes it big in life. while ostensibly reinforcing the value of tolerance and the baseless vanity of racial pride, its egalitarian politics are every bit as clumsy as the titular ugly duckling, what with the dubious portrayal of dehumanised, stereotyped, often self-destructive minorities... ...a film that spends a long time trying to highlight the unpleasantness of its world ends up bending over backwards to sugarcoat the same.

Barely a plot to follow here, that's why is so freewheeling and easygoing. Basically an outcast baby finding refugee in fantasy -- and other underdogs like his friend rat and a group of street-wise, jazzy scarecrows --, then returning to the circus of horrors to rescue mom and become a Hollywood star. The number of masterful set-pieces are just unbelievable: elephants, a proud race, and faceless black workers lifting the tent; the long pink elephants drunk trip, his final number at the circus.

The sad part of the story is developed perfectly. The humorous part, however, is not quite. "Drunken" dream is something which I usually don't like in movies and this is no exception. The ending seems a little bit rushed - instead of developing the attractive to kids, flying aspect, they just ended it very soon. The most interesting character here is probably the Mouse, because even Dumbo doesn't say much. However, many things are shown from a child's perspective, which is good. I have mixed feelings.
