one of the best astaire movies, and even though rogers is nowhere around garland and miller fill those shoes very well. this is simply a perfectly balanced musical that includes great dancing, great songs, and a great plot (rare for musicals).

I'll never understand how this film could make a beautiful woman like Judy Garland look like crap.

Moderately enjoyable, but rather uninspired. Unmemorable stagings of songs easy seem to propel the film rather than the weak Pygmalion-esque plot. Several of the mid-film numbers are successes, though Garland and Astaire never make a convincing pair. I'd watch Ann Miller tap anytime, though.

A joyous, frivolous musical that like all musicals essentially builds to the next number - thankfully, they're all well staged, memorably sung and engaging enough (with a plot similar to "Closer," but with singing). Less points for making Garland look hideous - like Amidala from Star Wars Ep. 2 - and a final "showpiece" song that is way less memorable than every other one.
