It's got all the funny and rewarding elements of the 1980s comedies and all, but the movie doesn't rely on these references -- thank God it doesn't, or it would be really boring. Emma Stone is a real charming star as this high school fake slut, those Jesus freaks are goddam funny, and her parents (Clarkson, Tucci) are, and I have no doubt of that, the coolest guys on earth.

The surprise film of 2010 I would say. It's one of those flicks that is a girly teenage comedy that has somehow transcended the genre. Very few can actually do this and this one did. And when I say transcended the genre, I mean that the genre is not good and pops out terrible movies most of the time.

The potential of this movie never delivered. Great cast, great opportunity for humor, yet it leaned to heavily on the serious portion of its plot, something that was welcome, but only with the balance of humor. See Mean Girls instead. They got it right.

easy a manages to target teenagers well, while completely disregarding their intelligence by throwing out wry wit in reference to literature and history that no average audience member would EVER catch--which just so happens to be the kind of thing i love. so while it belongs to a genre i would normally avoid with diligence, all is forgiven because this movie friggin' rocks--a pleasant surprise since the sole reason i decided to watch this is because emma stone is ungodly hot.

I really did not expect to like this one at all, but I found it refreshing. There were enough politics to keep me engaged, and the Penderghast family's lame jokes had me in stitches every time. Emma Stone walked the fine line between clever and precocious quite well, only stumbling once or twice, but overall a fairly strong performance.

High school girl gets a (unfounded) rumour for being a slut. Since they're reading The Scarlet Letter in English lit, she decides to play along, stitch a red A to her clothes and show people how hypocritical they're being. It backfires in spectacular and, occasionally, hilarious fashion since it turns out people are hypocrites. (Also, because nobody else has actually read the book.) Not a great comedy, but the script has its moments and Emma Stone gives good snark.

"Easy A" is an above-average teen comedy that heavily relies on Emma Stone's charisma and a capable supporting cast to emerge as a witty and entertaining diversion, without ever being able to escape the limitations of its genre. The script is sharply funny, although it has little understanding of adolescence and it's typically laden with clichés, while most of the characters are likable caricatures. It's a nice, light-hearted film overall, but not original enough to have any resonance.

"Easy A" has a very simplistic storyline, but it's extremely entertaining and, given that the journey is more important than the destination, utterly worthwile. The cast is superb, especially Stone, Tucci, Clarkson and Kudrow, while there is a stunning bunch of memorable jokes and mix-ups. I think that over-analyzing such a film can potentially destroy the pleasure it evokes. And what an amount of pleasure! One of the best comedies of recent years. By the way, Emma Stone is absolutely gorgeous!

"All the self-awareness and saucy banter in the world can't make Easy A consistently funny, nor can the copious snark, tired '80s references, and glib Scarlet Letter parallels that define its story." - Nick Schager

The thing that's often most obviously missing from 'teen' comedy is wit. Genuine, linguistic, clever, witty wit. This has it in spades, from a well-written script to Emma Stone's (and many supporting actors') delivery. An interesting and original take on the well worn themes of popularity, acceptance and struggles with sexuality that are often clumsily dealt with in such films. Loved it.

Every time Tucci opens his mouth is golden, but I just kept having problems buying into this. Yeah yeah it's a movie, but at times it's just too witty/ridiculous for its own good. I certainly don't remember sex being as big a deal in high school as it is presented here. Still it does provide some good entertainment and the cast is pretty strong, leaving only the lingering question of what the hell happened to Amanda Bynes?

Maybe it's b/c critics r just so appreciative of a teen comedy w/ an intelligent female as the lead that they're wiling to ignore the standard-issue teen-comedy level of "humor" here, but those expecting this to match its more-glowing reviews r going to b disappointed. Not only not funny, the characterization - even Stone's freakishly self-possessed teen who contrivedly changes in last 20 mins- is teen boiler plate w/ every other character incapable of existing anywhere but a movie screen.
