Some very memorable moments. Perhaps hampered slightly by the fact Herzog was prevented at the last minute from interviewing Bokassa.

Mildly interesting doc. There are fascinating elements to the story (cannibalism, megalomania, forced marriages) but for some reason the film seems to be a bit drab and slow. Perhaps the problem is that it's told almost entirely in anecdotes and we get little facetime with the man himself (who was in prison and sentenced to death at the time). It's unquestionably a Herzog work though, profiling people at the fringes of society. He bookends the film with two of his signature haunting images.

One of the more traditional outings in the documentary field for Herzog, but the stories told are unsettling enough to keep my attention. A particularly haunting scene for an opener (both the reading and what follows).
