This little watched masterpiece has not aged at all, and remains one of the best Italian war movies of all time. Also, its realistic writing and directing, location filming, use of non-actors and focus on working-class characters conspired to pave the way for Italian Neorealism which in turn revolutionized world cinema, so 1860's influence is incalculably enormous. With an abrupt ending its only major flaw, I fail to see why this film is not universally venerated.
