A truly heart-stopping film experience. Van Sant takes realism to another level and paints a portrait that anyone who went to high school in this decade could find something to relate to. Incredible tracking shots.

Van Sant's tries to be Antonioni. It's kind of an interesting failure.

Great work from Gus Van Sant,amazing camera work.Its a shame the acting from quite a few of the people in this film is so very very poor.

I just don't get Van Sant, seriously.

Most of the actors seemed to just play stereotypical characters you see in other high school films; asshole jock, deranged lunatic, puking drama queens, guy with camera taking pictures of everything.. For an 81 minute film, it sure dragged on forever, and when the film finally started to get interesting, they switch to another kid whose life seems to have no value and we watch more mundaneness. A film on this subject matter and not once any emotional feelings.

A spooky fly on the wall look at what might have played out as the Columbine shootings. Based around the two boys who commited it. Soft but poignant.

Columbine reimagined. The mammoth high school is a sad, lonely place.

Misleading title. "Bowling for Columbine, 'the happening' ". I think you have to 'feel this movie' and 'get it' to like it. I didnt feel it. Most was very boring.

This film is not for everyone, but I liked it. It used a lot of long tracking shots and long takes which really let you experience the space and characters. It was really cleverly structured too, moving from one character to the next. The acting was apparently improvised, and sadly, you can tell. I was hoping to love this film, but I just ended up liking it. Still, it’s more evidence that Gus Van Sant is a great director.

Gus Van Sant has been so much into "just filming reality, but still within a film", hasn't he? Like the excruciatingly slowly paced Gerry (recommended for marathon runners). Here (by mere accident one can assume) he get's it right. It's the proper mixture of tragedy, everyday life and a big fuck-you to film schema in general. Mesmerizing if disturbing.
