Buddy (Will Ferrell) was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa's sack and ended up at the North Pole. Later, as an adult human who happened to be raised by elves, Santa allows him to go to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). Hobbs, on Santa's naughty list for being a heartless jerk, had no idea that Buddy was even born. Buddy, meanwhile, experiences the delights of New York City (and human culture) as only an elf can. When Walter's relationship with Buddy interferes with his job, he is forced to reevaluate his priorities. (imdb)

Will Ferrell does it again..another hilarious movie and I love how they included peter billingsly as one of the elves awesome idea to do that. I also think that Zooey Deschanel does an awesome job.

Since this movie came out on DVD, I try to keep it handy every Christmas, because it became pretty much an instant classic for me. It's high concept - I mean how do you not smile when you say Will Ferrell is a Christmas elf?

A very satisfying combination of festive spirit and whimsy. An annual 'comfort watch' for me. Ferrell and Deschanel are perfect in their roles and the film score by John Debney sets the right atmosphere from the get-go. Unfortunately Dinklage is underutilised and worse than that is reduced to a cheap joke (lazy filmmaking by Favreau). Surely the Central Park Rangers are a homage to the horse-mounted Nazgûl in Jackson's version of 'The Fellowship of The Ring' (released in 2001)?

One of those movies that was just done right in every way. It will make you laugh no matter who you are unless you are one of those unlucky few that can't enjoy fantasy. Will is so loveable and funny and sincere, this movie will make you understand why I think he is a savant.

A very heart warming film, that has plenty of scenes that will have you laughing. Will Farrell is a master at comedic timing and facial expressions. The dialogue is very well written. Even tho Will's performance outshines everyone else, each actor adds flare to the movie. Zooey Deschanel is very hot as usual.

I know I'm in the minority but I don't find this heartwarming. It's the story of a selfish asshole who finds out he's a father, continues to be a selfish asshole, and in the end still gets a happy ending despite being an asshole to the end (remember those workers he LEFT working on Christmas Eve to fix HIS screw-up because NOW he believes family is important?? What a jerk.) Zooey Deschanel and Will Ferrell play... themselves.

In Elf we get to see Will Farrell at his best: endearing yet annoying. It's a family film about a human raised by Santa's elves who is sent back home to get back in touch with his real dad. It's a holiday family film about looking past our obvious weaknesses and seeing the true spirit within. Your kids will probably laugh at it and, as far as Christmas movies go, this is generally a good choice.

I'll be honest I didn't like Elf as much as I thought I would. Is it a funny holiday movie? Yes it is, it is just pure silliness and that's great. The problem is it also tries to be emotional, and on that end it is lacking. An enjoyable movie, but not one I'd put as an annual Christmas tradition.

I can only give this a score of 1 because I think I only laughed once. It was very boring and I think Hollywood was just looking for a movie to throw out for Christmas. The only thing good about this movie is if you need to get to sleep fast this is the one you wnat to watch.

The magic of this film is how silly and hyperactive Will Ferrell is, I think the film may have been written with him in mind its so hectic. An average feelgood christmas story gets elevated by comedy gold and great acting (not to mention Zooey Deschanel's singing)

This movie made it very clear to me that I do NOT like Will Ferrell. Even more I do not like an hour and a half of Will Ferrell. The background story is not enough to make up either, as we get a complete asshole getting his happy ending despite making everyone else miserable for this year and all those before that. In a just world, Santa would have come back and slapped him with a bag full of coal.

My fiance tries to slip this in before Thanksgiving every year and I wont let her... but once it is time it is worth it! For some reason I love this movie. It is a great combination of witty humor, holiday movie, and funny one liners. I think it is a modern holiday classic, even if the "message" gets a little lost in the comedy and only comes back at the end to make you cringe a little with that holiday SPIRIT :) But come on.... "Buddy the ELF whats your favorite color!?"

Hate Will Ferrell? Me too! Don't like Christmas movies? Same here! But I love Elf. It's sweet, funny, and set in New York City. It didn't try to be a "modern" Christmas film, nor did it go too far into nostalgic re-run territory. It's not Miracle on 34th Street, but something of the old classic rubbed off on it.

Will Ferrel is impressive in this family comedy about an elf who is just not an elf. This is not a normal Will Ferrel comedy however. This has more dramatic elements and can at times be quite a tearjerker. Will is an exceptional actor who is multi-faceted in all the works that he is done. Some movies of his which I will rate Im sure in do time were complete duds. This one however, is a winner and a must see. If you have children they will love it and you will be laughing right with them.
