I can understand why many people didn't like this movie, but for me it's a totally heartfelt and moving film. I loved it to pieces. Even Orlando Bloom couldn't ruin it for me.

This movie has a lot of interesting scenes, but the story is badly flawed, not convincing and didn't feel real. By the end of the movie, I was tired of Orlando Bloom's acting. Even the beautiful and usually exciting Kirsten Dunst was cast as overly pretentious and unrealistic. Susan Sarandon was good. Some good music used poorly, but the plot and script are meandering and the pacing and editing is bad. This movie should have been better, but somehow the sum of its parts is worse than the parts.

3 films: 1st 3rd about Bloom's downfall and drawn out meeting extended family and I was convinced OG MPDG Dunst was imaginary, 2nd was Serandon coming to the rescue @ funeral, and 3rd was a fun road film but with Dunst's unbelievable scrapbook. When did she even have time to do all this? I was also very conscious of Crowe's lack of nonwhite characters in the wake of Aloha. This was set in KY but we only got an unexplained black friend at the service. Fav scenes: Serandon's eulogy; road trip.

A perfect coming of age film, with a perfect soundtrack to compliment Crowe's perfect writing and direction. This writer/director may be one of the best that will ever grace the screen. And the chemistry of Dunst and Bloom is impossible to ignore as is the rest of the supporting cast in this film from Baldwin to Biel to Sarandon.

This is an odd sort of movie. It's almost like two movies molded together; a love-story, and a finding-myself-getting-over-the-loss-of-my-father story. I adore the love-story element, but found the latter to be a bit over-done and "blah." Still, it was great seeing Bloom in a "normal" role for a change and I even liked Dunst, whom I usually can't stand; her character is so quirky and cute!

Horrible. An embarassment for Cameron Crowe. The dialouge is so forced it's difficult not to laugh at how bad it is. The casting is poor across the board, Orlando Bloom is not right for the role (which isn't much of one), and Kirsten Dunst's character and performance is probably one of the most annoying ever. The movie is all over the place trying to say something, anything meaningful, and it ends up saying nothing.

Godawful sentimentality. Crowe needs to punctuate every emotional moment with an appropriate lite rock tune (giving the characters an opportunity to do a heartwarming dance). The characters are dripping with good ol' American charming quirkiness and wise little tidbits that perfectly sum up life's bittersweetness. This is "Sundance bait": plain folks dealing with plain problems and finding strength through horrible one-liners. Also, the whole shoe fiasco is extremely implausible.

HIGHLY recommended turkey. There is an awe-inspiring consistency to the inhumanness of every character, large and small. Whatever careful balance of charm Crowe cultivated in his previous work is thrown wildly out of equilibrium, resulting in monstrous, surreal caricatures and a tone that resembles a gradual descent into insanity. This is a film that OPENS with a chuckle-pandering suicide attempt rife with whimsy, and then the roller-coaster tumbles downward from there.

This may well be ultimate "ink blot test" that will reflect your opinion of Crowe's entire filmography - there are some good elements here (particularly the nice chemistry between Bloom and Dunst that almost makes their cutesy romance work), but just as many interminable, self indulgent ones; Crowe's screenplay is not nearly probing enough to Bloom's brooder, and Dunst is a collection of dramatic conveniences rather than a real character. Could have cut Sarandon's funeral prancing as well!

This movie wants to be quirky, cute, and introspective, but doesn't crack below the surface with any of its characters. Cameron Crowe's direction gives the film a nice atmosphere and one could definitely see where a rom-com like this would take its roots, but there's sincerely nothing truly here.

A touching film. I thought it was well acted and an interesting story. While some of the film is a little darker than I typically enjoy watching, I can understand why the film was made the way it was. It's a different sort of film in that it feels almost like two movies (Bloom's story with Dunst, and Bloom's story with his character's father). However, once I decided to just sit back and enjoy the journey, I ended up liking the film.

n spite of all of this meaty, bittersweet food for thought, some families, especially those with tweens enamored with Orlando Bloom (The Lord of the Rings) and Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man), may determine (appropriately so) that ambiguous sexual ethics and a few choice words are sufficient reason to bypass exit 60B and the home cookin' of Elizabethtown. A film full of great moments that never manages to come together to form a cohesive whole. There are some very good performances here, but Bloom is so wrong in the lead that it pretty much nullifies the work of the strong supporting players. Dunst plays the perfect girl, and Crowe puts together one hell of a soundtrack. This thing needed re-writes, and a different lead actor. There is a great movie in here somewhere, but this isn't it.

Most of its running time, the film leaves you with a strange mixture of shy gags and some uneven and lovely romantic twists -- and all that backgrounded by a great soundtrack --, but it's too bad that the acting is not quite balanced -- Kirsten shines and Bloom, well... -- and Crowe's script slowly builds a bland finale. Guess he didn't want success, just greatness. Didn't achieve any of these.

The beginning scenes provides such a great payoff that the rest of the film, even with its flaws and Dunst's weird acting style, is really not as hard of a pill to swallow as some reviewers likely imagine. Being versed in Louisville culture helps, but the real centerpiece for this film is Bloom whose performance, having to both mourn and flirt in scenes, is actually really great. Come into this film expecting a poor rom-com and you might walk out actually impressed. By no means a terrible film.
