Very foreign images clash with very American music, until the images conform, or at least take a lush vacation. I'm not sure what the meaning is for this film (even though it actually tries to explain itself), but it's pretty funky and would be really cool to play in the background of a high-class party.
Ray must have been a leg man. Besides the usual virtues of a short film, I wasn't expecting performed music and dancing to appear in a silent experimental movie. All told, too much fun to seem like an "art film"
"Man Ray's expanded short after his 3-minute Return to Reason with a similar kaleidoscope of objects, spinning items, games with light and reflections, etc. A woman's legs while she dances the twist, a man takes off his collar from around his neck then collars are spinned, some faces and visual games with eyes, etc. A barrage of random imagery, some moderately visually interesting but mostly Dada chaos."
Better than Le Retour à la raison, but I wasn't such a fan of that anyway. It was okay. This is more of the same though slightly better because it has a little more going on. I can admire it but don't overly enjoy it.
This is more mindless wankery ("let's see what happens when I do this with the camera") than true surrealism, but there are a few clever or evocative bits.
