Saw this on German satellite TV when I was in my mid-teens and it blew my mind; that scene with Kristel and Christine Boisson on the wicker chairs... blimey, it didn't get much hotter. Re-watching a decade and a half later, I'm surprised by how tame it is. Very soft focus. The first hour is still very sexy stuff, but the final 30 minutes is pretty horrible, and negates everything that came before it. Emmanuelle's discovery of eroticism only happens after she is raped? Ugh. Misogynistic bullshit.

I was the hugest King Crimson fan when I saw this on Vancouver cable (early CKVU?) in the late seventies. All the love scenes used "Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt.2" (not K.C.-performed) which fit the sensuality of the proceedings quite bang on (npi). Mr. Fripp was not too impressed with not getting any royalties from it. I was also a provincially-ranked junior squash player then, and the squash court lezzin out really cemented my bias. oh - did I mention that ALL THE FUCKING WAS HOTTER THAN SHIT?

First of all, Kristel is freaking hot, not in the American way. The Thailand backdrop is interesting. Loved the way Kristel experimented with the other ladies. Thought that the sharp turn in attitude and atmosphere near the end ruined the eroticism and the ethereal quality somewhat. It's like the lessons on sex and love were not learnt, but forced onto her. It feels less like a transformation than a rehabilitation. I wished the love scenes were longer, and kess philosophical rants.

Points because it was lifechanging-horrifying back in the sixth grade. Probably responsible for me not being into girls.
