One of five adaptations of the Marquis de Sade's Philosophy in the Boudoir directed by cult filmmaker Jesus Franco, this version was perhaps the most subdued, although it was still explicit enough to encounter censorship problems. Maria Rohm stars as Mme. de St. Ange, who reads the Marquis' book and fantasizes about its excessive content... (All Movie Guide)

For a flick with such a sensational title (it's subtitled Her Journey into Perversion), this is actually pretty tame, the general feeling is one of slow moving, dream-like eroticism rather than exploitative sleaze. A couple of gorgeous girls spend most of 90 minutes naked and engaging in soft focus sapphic love, it could be worse. Oh, and there's whipping.

She tries to kick her adiction to S&M, drugs, etc. Dated but OK.

Euro-erotica which I'm conflicted on. The production design, lighting, and the music are kitsch, camp and great because of it. Sadly the plot is a generic tale of the young titular innocent being lead into perversion. It could have worked for a plot, but it ends up being disinteresting and extremely conservative despite the rampant titillation; considering its references to de Sade, surely you could have had a more unconventional and interesting take on sexuality for a genre film?

The first Jess Franco film I've seen, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting lots of nudity, and it duly delivered, but I wasn't expecting such an engaging storyline or such high production values. The camerawork, the locations, the psychedelic lighting; it's all good stuff and adds to the sinister atmosphere. Maria Rohm steals the show as the seductive femme fatale, and it pulls a nice couple of twists towards the end. Some of the acting is iffy, but in a film like this who cares?

Rather tame these days and much less exploitative than the combo of director and title might suggest. Slow-moving but enjoyable
