Summary: This second installation of the four-part Rebuild series sets itself an almost impossible task: To condense seven hours of the TV anime, episodes 7 to 20, into a single 108-minute feature.

A huge improvement from part one. Since I only saw the first half of the original series back in the day, some of the freaky stuff that's taking place here is a bit confusing, but I'm interested to see where it's all headed. The action is really impressive, I love the ridiculously destructive power of the Angels. Those pop songs were pretty stupid and unnecessary though.

A bit more skewered towards the action fan, but 2.0 is still very much Evangelion and still has, for the most part, the same great character development and intriguing psychological aspect. Though, the latter is tamed down considerably and, depending on the viewer, that is a good or bad thing. To me, however, it kind of hurts the experience. I did very much enjoy this film, however, though Mari seemed to be a largely unnecessary addition. Very interesting ending.

Descends further into self referential esoterics and shameless pandering -- buoyed by exceptional craft and some fascinating plot turns. But we need an End to save us.

As said by many others, this far outshines 1.0. The last act is worth the price of admission alone, with some interesting new storylines. Animation is again top-notch, and I agree wholeheartedly with the 'you must see this on Blu-Ray' sentiment.

Anno seemed to know that the middle of the Eva story was its weakest part, so he completely rewrote it. This is fine, but I question whether a new character, "Beast Mode," and relentless pandering to shippers were the right way to go.

Either I was totally absent on the first one or this is a major improvement upon it. 3D is still lacking and stiff, but the rest is fabulous. With rich detail Neo Tokyo comes alive, especially sense of depth and scale is worth mentioning. Intermission songs are miserable and out of place. Well, since the original is there for whomever wants to investigate, I'll drop thinking about what's different. I wonder where they are heading, both the original ending and -End of Eva- are way past storywise.

Of course the animation and v/as are top notch, but the new character, battles and Evas make this outshine even 1.0 . I'm hoping that a bit more of the deep character analysis makes it into the next movie, because there's still a ton to cover.

Gets a ridiculously high grade for the last half hour alone. Hideaki Anno, you're a goddamned fucking genius.

I really enjoyed this much more than I was expecting to. The uncomfortable fanservice (14 year old girls objectified as sex objects) I feared was heaped on casually, and a lot of the subtle ambiguities and quiet pathos I loved about the series were smothered in favor of bombastic action, but I will confess: after 15 years, I am still a fan. This is much better than the first part, and seems to be headed in a direction that just might rival End of Evangelion...

Trumps 1.0. Great music and animation but not that you don't already expect that. This series continues to amaze me and just leaves me wanting the next two to come out as soon as possible.
