The movie has some funny moments and some excellent performances, but they don't add up to a great movie. Kristen Wiig is tragically underused and Mila Kunis's character feels almost like an afterthought. She exists to propel the plot forward and that's about it. Still, Bateman delivers another entertaining performance and the movie is decent.

Despite the threat (both looming & realized) of some severely unpleasant life changes 2 the main character, very little truly feels at stake. Most glaring is Bateman's relationship w/ his wife: since it starts at zero it's difficult 2 care when trouble arises. Although unpredictable as a narrative, it's tonally 2 grounded in reality 4 his problems 2 allow 4 big laughs, so it never manages 2 intrigue or excite. Judge's usual blue-collar-folks-r-dumb material begets a few chuckles but nothing more.

Tolerably bland comedy with some funny moments. The film just does not have a lot going for it. And Bateman's and Wiig's comedic charms can only do so much.

40 minutes in I was quite enjoying this light weighted comedy, it soon falls apart a bit. Characters tend to float in and out, which means a tighter script would of helped. Ending wasn't particularly great either. Enough side humor to get you by.

This could have been so much better. The story itself was decent it just wasn't nearly as funny as it could have been. Some pretty hilarious moments keep this from being a total waste of a comedy but there were too many gaps where nothing really funny was happening.

A very original story that progresses in a weird way. It thrives as a character study, but it's still a comedy. Judge is a great filmmaker. You probably won't recognize Ben Affleck.

Ok, didn't dislike it. I wasn't even expecting an Office Space quality comedy (which are rare enough) but it was a let down. If you see it you probably won't hate it, but if you miss it don't worry about it. Also Gene Simons is the man.

"I'll be the laughing stock of the grindcore community." I loved that line. But there were very few parts that I actually laughed. The plotline is dull. The acting is definitely passable and all that. It's a decent movie, and pretty clever, but it's not really a good movie. Pretty close though.

Disappointingly bland story that goes nowhere and amounts to nothing: Are we supposed to be happy that they settle for a boring marriage? Luckily there a couple of inspired characters (Brad, Joe Adler etc.), good performances and flashes of witty dialogue - plus a few truly inspired scenes. Lawyer Joe Adler was awesome: "If you stand over here and let me slam your balls in the door, we'll drop the lawsuit!"

It's alright with some genuinely funny moments. I fear, however, that I think Mike Judge really hit the high point of his career with Office Space. Nothing else seems to have the superb hilarious that OS offered. Though extract is a capable comedy it never rises above "OK", despite having Jason Bateman and a good supporting cast.

I don't know why exactly (I don't even count myself as a huge Mike Judge fan), but something about this movie just clicked for me. Maybe it's fondness for Jason Bateman carried over from Arrested Development, but I laughed like a retarded eight-year-old at the circus from one end to another. They even managed to make the hoary "guys sitting around smoking pot" trope hilarious.

It's a fairly simple, almost farcical, story; but it works quite well. As is often the case with Judge, he uses the characters themselves as the vehicle for his message, not only the events around them. There is no shortage of laughs, either. When all is said and done, it is one of my favorite comedies from 2009; and I believe a larger public will come to appreciate it in time.

Much, much better than Idiocracy, much more in the vane of Office Space. Pretty damn funny as a whole. Mila Kunis' character could have used a little more screen time just to justify her existence a little more. Ben Affleck and J.K. Simmons steal the show away from anyone else.

Good thing Judge did "Office Space" first because he might not have gotten a chance to make a second film. Oh that's way too harsh. I don't mean that, really, but although it definitely had its moments here and there, there's precious little comedic consistency and Bateman's character is nowhere near as sympathetic or relatable (who here owns their own factory?) as Peter Gibbons was so it's hard to get invested in his home life when there's so little there to begin with. But it's amusing enough.

What happened to Mike Judge and why is this ranked so high on my PSIs. Meandering plot with characters I could care less about, each one a stereotype of some sort with no development. Just watching pointless people do pointless things and make dumb decisions that lead exactly where you think they're going to lead. I was hoping for so much after Idiocracy but this was terrible.

Extract needed more coherency, sharper jokes, and perhaps less going on in order to be a great film. As it is, it'll play and be generally non-threatening, but you'll question why exactly you should give it 90 minutes of your life. It has some great moments, some interesting characters, and even a couple of humorous situations, but on the whole makes little sense and fails at both a comedy and a satire. I can't give you a reason to watch Extract.

I really found this movie to drag on. After 30 minutes I really expected the movie to have been 2/3 over by that point but it just kept going. The cast wasn't able make this movie any more likable for me. The poster for this movie really shows what was important for this film; 1 hour 40 minutes of Mila Kunis' cleavage peeking through a hipster flannel shirt. The overall story played well but it just didn't have enough meat for me.

Sometimes funny, sometimes slow, its uneven and a little absurd at times, but mostly enjoyable. The epilogue was the highlight of the movie, which got the biggest laugh by far. ("I didnt know he had that many friends" she said sardonically.) David Koechner is pretty flat, as is, surprisingly, J.K. Simmons. But the one I wanted more screen time for was Mila Kunis. Cast as the hot chick that has all the guys drooling over her, she is way undercast. 7/10. 5 or 6 without the hope of more Mila

Mike Judge's comic look at workplace relations, the American dream, and dull surburbia is messy and not in a rush to go anywhere, but it's low key style is strangely appealing, and while it lacks the standout characters of Office Space, the characters are more intelligently drawn. Extract is the direct flipside of Office Space: it addresses the everyday frustrations of business owners rather than workers. Paradoxically, the end result is both Judge's most conservative and radical work.

A dearth of jokes; bland, low-energy direction; a mundane plot that doesn't really communicate its stakes very well. These are all the elements of a boring movie, and Extract is definitely that. It's probably down to the cast that it isn't a total snoozefest, though even they struggle to inject some energy into the production. The stuff in the factory is good, but I guess Judge didn't want to do another workplace comedy so those scenes end up being largely incidental.

"Extract" is no "Office Space," but it is a closer return-to-form for Mike Judge. In some ways it is slow-paced, but it keeps chugging along with some infectious characters and worthwhile laughs--the kind of quirky little film that's hard to find these days. Some of the minor characters aren't as well-constructed as I would like, but Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, David Koechner and Dustin Milligan are all a hoot. Fans of "Office Space" are sure to find something worthwhile in "Extract."

Amongst some not very good jokes I learned that -while not always getting things right- capitalists are always working to increase their -and everyone else's- happiness, that people who aren't capitalists are thieves, druggies, stupid hicks or greedy lawyers (Simmons played his disgusting self). Despite feeling too long it seemed a lot was chopped out. Nauseating. [df]

"I'd be the laughing stock of the grindcore community." Not to take away from Kristen Wiig or Jason Bateman, but most of the funny crap comes from the margins. I liked the movie overall, but it was pretty uneven. The plots all seemed to come and go as they pleased, and Jason Bateman couldn't quite hold everything together. Not that there's anything wrong with him as a straight man or a romantic lead, but this film really did not want or need a Michael Bluth style character.

Extract feels a little like Office Space "Lite". It doesn't pack nearly as many jokes in its 1 1/2 hours, but nearly all of them made me laugh. One of things I can't stand about most horror movies is how many stupid choices the main characters make. I had that same problem with this movie--I wanted to yell at Joel over and over again, for his timidity and his refusal to simply talk to his wife. Beyond that, Bateman is charming and Simmons is hilarious, as usual. I enjoyed Affleck, too, which doesn't happen often. The scene I laughed the most at was the smokedown, which was in the damn preview.

Well this was an unexpected festering turd of a movie. Mike Judge doesn't always hit a home run with his work but there's always been a basic level of enjoyability consistently through his career. Here Extract feel like an unfinished first draft in terms of a plot and the humour is just non existent. While the setup is weak to begin with, the excellent cast could have made much more of this if they had better material. I won't ever be watching this shit again that's for sure.

Mila Kunis is irresistibly hot but also an opportunistic grifter. She steals purses, wallets, guitars, etc, and plays into any con to get her hands on some money. She nearly causes the company to go bankrupt before being exposed. Extract seems to mark a compromise between the broad social commentary of Idiocracy and the slice of life tragedy of office space. Jason Bateman makes a great lead and the rest of the cast does a great job making their hapless characters likable. Part of what makes Extract work so well isn't just the general indifference of the lead with his crumbling life, but the fact that there aren't cheap conflict or antagonists, just the struggle of humanity against greed and apathy.

This should put a dent in Judge's reputation as a misunderstood genius whose lack of success is only because he's been ill-treated by studios. Despite the adoration in some quarters for Judge's film work, both of his prior live-action outings suffer from significant sloppiness surrounding the flares of inspiration. In Extract, the sloppiness takes over entirely. Judge pounds away at his various plot threads and can barely find a decent laugh. By the end, the movie almost reeks of flop sweat.
