Completely crazy. The manga scene of "FLCL" is my favorite anime scene in any series. Incredibly fun, some great work and a kick ass soundtrack to say the least. One of a kind.

It helps if you're coming to this with some experience in anime. Things like Akira, Evangelion, etc. are more or less prerequisites. The Revolutionary Girl Utena movie claimed to be an "adolescence apocalypse," but this was the true postmodern coming of age in anime, and the first true anime for the 21st century. Here we have all kinds of sexualized confusion, erections in the form of robots emerging from a boy's head, plenty of other Freudian madness, plus Looney Tunes kinetics.

Uh, this is more of a mini-series OAV sort of thing, but it rules. Japanese indie rock and all.

Weird anime, it has an interesting style and a great soundtrack, though it can be too perverted at times.

Show summary: punk-era Sogo Ishii raped Andy Warhol, shat a son, that son married Freud's mother, took LSD and decided to rewrite Neon Genesis Evangelion. And that only scratches the surface of this surreal and ultimately hypnotic descent into the existential macabre, but one painted with bold primaries and Looney Tunes logic. There's even an extended South Park reference! and is therefore pure gold.

This is on Criticker? Awesome.

First half is spectacular, and while always being worthwhile, doesn't exactly hold up as strong in later sections. Is every bit as insane as its reputation makes it out to be and usually wonderfully so.

I watched this series in response to the critical acclaim that I found here, but after a few episodes I felt pretty disappointed. I didn't like the weird sexual undertones, the wacky humor, and the generic 'cutesy' animation style. Upon reflection, I think that I just don't like anime TV series.

"This show redefines the word brainless. You brain will be screaming 'what's going on?' over and over until it'll overload and shut down. An unpleasant experience."

Not a film. As far as series go, it's up there as far as weirdness is concerned, but I didn't really follow any of what was going on. Will have to rewatch it to properly assess it.

Very strange. I actually did not enjoy it that much. I thought the music was too loud and very distracting. But that's just my opinion. I did really like the last episode
