It skillfully manages to (appearantly intentionally) cover every cliché in the noir textbook, but for some reason it stops there and does nothing to subvert or transcend this conventions. I guess they thought that placing the mystery in Cinecittá with Orson Welles as the protagonist should be enough but guess what, it isn't. Its heart is in the right place, but the result is predictable and uninspired; pretty much the filmic equivalent to a lame tribute band.
