Good adaptation of an average (blasphemy!?) book. Bradbury is a fine wordsmith but I always found the story itself to be pretty heavy-handed and repetitive, even if well-intentioned.

Some minor changes from the book, but despite it's age, it still tells a powerful story. Actually seeing all those beautiful books lit up... almost brought a tear to my eye.

Truffaut is not exactly faithful to the book but I think he captures the spirit of it well enough. The built-in suspense of the story, in addition to the Herrmann score, makes this feel quite a bit like a Hitchcock film. But Christie's double role is a pointless novelty. It adds nothing to the film. Besides this, and some poor rear projection and one hilarious bad special effect, the film is well done. I'm not sure Oscar Werner is the right person to play Montag, but I do enjoy watching him.

One of the best, though perhaps the least appreciated, of Truffaut's films. Superb Bernard Herrmann score.

Lacks the personal feel that most Truffaut films have. It drags a bit too long and Montag's motivation and character change came on much too quickly. Suffers cause it isn't faithful to the book but it's still a decent movie, just not great. Some of the special effects were done really well for the time. Would like to see this get remade.

Mostly faithful to the book but not quite dystopian enough to really shake your soul like Bradbury's masterpiece

Still the best adaptation of a Bradbury book to hit the screen (big or small). This is Truffaut's first English-language film, and he treats the subject of language and literature with a dignity not found in most American films.

apparently truffaut looses most of his ability in translation, and bradbury lost his power in adaptation. overall this is a quite mediocre outing by most people associated with it. i didn't expect much from it, and i guess i wasn't disappointed.

Not a great adaptation, but a very nice film in its own right. Truffaut's script - especially the dialogue - limps a bit, but it still gets the job done and the last 40 minutes are just beautiful.
