Summary: Homicide detective John Hobbes witnesses the execution of serial killer Edgar Reese. Soon after the execution the killings start again, and they are very similar to Reese's style. (imdb)
The hooks of _Shocker_ and _The Hidden_ meet the look of _Se7en_ in a mainstream chiller. The Stones' "Time Is on My Side" serves as an ironic mantra (the same song was similarly, and more adroitly, referenced in _Glen and Randa_). This sports a neat twist ending worthy of a superior "Twilight Zone" episode but fails to supply enough entertainment along the way to make it worth the wait.
Fallen (1998) is a detective story starring Denzel Washington as a cop who gets unrelentingly harassed by some Rolling-Stones-obsessed daemon named Azazel. So, yeah, it's a supernatural thriller. I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It had some great actors and a pretty decent script. It was more of a psychological thriller, so there wasn't a ton of action, but it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
One of the very few "suspense/thriller" films that had me confused at first, and later, completely engrossed in the central conflict. Great ensemble acting and a simple story devoid of plot holes aid in this, and the pay-off at the end is well worth the build-up. A very good, underrated movie.
I had not heard much about this film before. It was definitely an enjoyable thriller with an interesting cast. Washington was good in the lead role. I enjoyed the ending.
Not a brilliant film of course, but the idea of a travelling demon - and its execution in the film - is quite original and lifts Fallen above the normal 'supernatural stuff'.
