Summary: Jessie is an ageing career criminal who has been in more jails, fights, schemes, and lineups than just about anyone else. His son Vito, while currently on the straight and narrow, has had a fairly shady past and is indeed no stranger to illegal activity. They both have great hope for Adam, Vito's son and Jessie's grandson, who is bright, good-looking, and without a criminal past... (imdb)

Worth seeing for three terrific performances by the charismatic leads, even though they're never quite believable as family -- and the story lets them down. Further undermined by one of the most appalling music scores of recent memory, composed by Cy Coleman.

Not bad, albeit disappointing for Sidney Lumet. The writing is very able, and does make an effort to explore complexities, but there's something so tame about the premise that it would have required some really brilliant treatment to be saved. Comedy or no comedy, Connery and Hoffman (as actors, but their characters too) are a bit too amiable for this film, and I rather hated the corny music.

Decent albeit trite story idea, but really, really drawn out and poorly delivered.

Not a confusing film, but a confused plot trying to say that the crime is holding a family together and at the same time, that it is breaking it apart. How could one resist (to say it's not good)?

Not a lot of plot, but with these three thesps and Lumet directing, who cares? Very nicely done film, again showing Lumet's wisdom in just getting great performances out of people

Not a lot of plot. And I care. Actors can't save a movie. They can give it some merit, but they can't make it anything good if it's bad in the first place. This movie's interesting sometimes but it usually drags. And Connery gets on my nerves here, something he's never done before.
