Stunningly photographed by Mikael Salomon, the film is merely average in the story, acting, and music departments. The film's vaunted 1893 Oklahoma land rush is historically inaccurate; it actually occurred in 1889. Moral: Good intentions and sweet sentiments do not make a great movie.

Good must see film of the 1990's. Cruise and Kidman? You can't go wrong.

Cliche and unlikely story of two people falling for each other under dire circumstances in the turn of the century. The set and costumes are fantastic but what you are seeing is the usual Tom Cruise vanity trailer but this time with Nicole Kidman.

The film is just poorly thought-out. It features disengaging plot holes as well as confusing, illogical scenes. The result is a disjointed mess, making it difficult to get into the picture. However, there are a few cool individual scenes. The bar brawl was fun, and some of the directing tricks Ron Howard employs were neat. Cruise and Kidman are neither good nor horrible in this one, much as I despise both of them as human beings. It's poor, but has a few redeeming moments.

I actually didn't think it was as bad as many make it out to be...too much Tom and Nicole, but not completely useless.

A pretty formulaic movie. Not bad, not great, just slightly more entertaining than the average movie.

Pure tongue in cheek entertainment about the Irish American pioneer experience. Cliche but loveable, and Cruise and Kidman shine at a moment when they seemed in love and in psynch. Endearing and funny/heartwarming. Good times.

when i lived in new orleans in the early 90's i would go to movies with my friend nancy. we alternated who got to pick the film. nancy chose this one. but i think fondly of new orleans and going to movies with a friend, so i gave it a 1 instead of a 0.
