Summary: A sociological portrait of a Scandinavian island called Faro, off the coast of Gotland in southeastern Sweden. Bergman was fascinated by the extremes in climate, which make the island unbearably cold and practically unlivable during the winter but quite mild and pleasant in the summer. (allmovie.com)

The film has a rambling quality. We get to see farmers at work, a local poet, a family whose house burned down, a funeral, a hog being butchered, fishermen, a roof being thatched, people bitching about government bureaucracy and tourism, et cetera. It's somewhat interesting, but also a bit mundane. There's a feeling that Bergman is scrambling for material to fill time. A mildly engaging look at the unique problems and lifestyles of a small, isolated community, but kind of bland for my tastes.
