"There are plenty of blasé attitudes about the companies who provide our burgers and fries, and with Fast Food Nation, there's one more diffident voice to join the chorus." - Preston Jones

Decent movie, but I was kind of irked when they felt the need to go full PETA near the end. There was no subtlety to the flick, and every conversation/interaction was a different character beating you over the head with THE FACTS about all the aspects of the industry. It wasn't all bad though, as I thought Kinnear and Willis were phenomenal. Outside of those two, I could only recommend it to someone curious about the fast food industry because there's not much else.

It's more of a human drama rather than an expose of the fast food industry, but I was intrigued by the stories and characters.

Spoon-fed lefty politics that's missing all the relish it needs to give it any taste. Played out with no drama whatsoever, it's incredibly dull and shockingly bad considering some of the talent both in front of and behind the camera. As the killing room scene was actually the most interesting of the movie and I was craving a Burger King come the credits, it's a complete failure too. Could've cut the whole thing down to just Bruce Willis' speech and it would've made a better film.

Ugly, but by no means worthless. The script ditches some much-needed subtlety to make points - check out the trio of Kristofferson, Willis and Hawke's monologues - but is nonetheless one of the richer hyperlink movies to come out in the last few years. Linklater deserves credit for refusing to tie the characters together beyond their incidental/occupational interactions (ie Crash, Babel).

It's quite shocking to see a fine filmmaker like Linklater sink so low and so unexpectedly. It looks like after the huge success of the awful Crash, he wanted to have a 'topical' Oscar film of his own and made this ham-fisted, preachy and shallow look at the beaten to death topic of exploitation in the fast food world. Linklater fans should see it to believe it.

Eric Schlosser's 2001 book is a mind-spinning feat of investigative journalism, examining the insidious influence of fast food on the American culture. Linklater works directly with Schlosser in adapting the book into a fiction film but the material seems to repel these efforts. Linklater and Schlosser throw a bunch of stuff at the wall to see what sticks only to find themselves staring down a blank wall. Nothing ever gels.
