Summary: A definitive look at the infamous expletive, this film explores how this oft-used word, still widely seen as obscene, somehow permeates every aspect of our culture - from Hollywood, to the schoolyard, to the Senate floor in Washington, D.C., where it is at the very center of the ongoing debate on free speech. A look at the f-word from an American perspective, Fuck is at its most entertaining when it examines the many forms and uses of the expletive. Most of the runtime is dedicated to showing its impact on US broadcasting, which can be interesting and amusing (especially the overly-conservative Helen Lovejoy-esque "Think about the CHILDREN!!" talking heads) but limits the scope of the documentary somewhat. Nowhere near as funny or offensive as The Aristocrats, this is still worth one watch.

Amusing in parts, slightly interesting in others. The film comes to the conclusion fairly quickly that the king of curse words has no real known history, and after that point it's just observations of the word in entertainment, religion, and the world. Basically nothing most people don't already know.

The idea of inherent obscenity of language has always fascinated me, and this movie explores that concept in depth. A very interesting doc.

A fun watch, featuring an interesting cast of commentators. Unlikely to broaden your cultural horizons.

I just remembered that I have watched this. What I really can't remember is what it was like but that makes it really irrelevant now, doesn't it? And I don't have the urge to watch it again, so 50 seems fair..

This movie poses various arguments from both sides of the censorship debate, and while the filmmaker is never explicitly involved, he manipulates and juxtaposes the interview footage to suit his needs (namely, to mock the more conservative points of view). It creates a false veneer of neutrality. I don't think documentaries have an obligation to objectivity, I just find this method a little cheap and impersonal. Most people will have their minds made up anyway, and it's pretty fun to watch.

This is an interesting documentary that shows both sides. There are people for the word and against it in this movie.

Seems like they wanted more about where the word came from but were disappointed that the history of it was lost to time and filled the rest of the film with talking heads, some interesting, some not. But if you're interested in the subject matter, then it's a worthwhile documentary for all the viewpoints put forth. Surreal to see so many people in one place arguing for censorship, to which I say: Fuck that.

Some great interviewees marred by some completely uninteresting ones. Why interview a pornstar in regards to his or her knowledge of the word "fuck"? Certainly a tremendous low point in the documentary but seeing genuine intellectuals speak candidly about their take on what is generally considered one of the most offensive words around makes it a worthwhile watch.

Pretty awesome. Was cool to see Hunter so damn old. And I couldn't help but laugh at the people who were for censorship. I also don't understand how Drew Carey is such a cool guy in all these documentaries I see him in but such a pussy on his show and The Price is Right.

The only interesting part was how extreme the FCC's behavior became during the Bush administration, relative to Clinton's. That was shocking. And LBJ was a finger fucking fan eh? Something new everyday...
