Summary: A mockumentary chronicling the rise and fall of a not particularly talented--or particularly bright but always controversial--1990s hip-hop group, NWH (Niggaz with Hats). (imdb)

PSI: 74. Pretty accurate. A bit hit-or-miss and sorta dated, but funny and clever enough for the most part.

For my money, the most criminally under-appreciated parody ever.

Simple, predictable humor, but it's well-executed, and the short song snippets go great with the funny one-liners. Some of the jokes fail, and others are just repetitive, but it's fast-paced enough to never get boring, and ends on a strong note. And on the plus side, even someone like myself, who doesn't listen to rap, understood virtually all the references to NWA, Easy E, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, MC Hammer etc. A funny, amusing parody, but nothing special, either.

If you like like rap music, hate rap music, don't care about rap music, or are a vegetable confined to a hospital bed, you should find some time to watch Fear of a Black Hat. It is one of those filsm where each time you watch it, you find something new to laugh at, and the critique of late 80's early 90's hip-hop is dead on.

_This Is Spinal Tap_ goes rap in this nifty burlesque. Quite funny at times, with Cundieff cleverly chiding the self-serving "street politics" of Public Enemy and 2 Live Crew.

Intelligent, and stupid. Intelligently stupid, as a matter of fact. In short, hilarious. The music isn't bad either.

I think the general concensus is that this movie sucks, but I honestly think it's hilarious. It's a 50/50 mix of brilliant satire and juvenile potty humor and dick jokes. I am a fan of both of these things. Honestly, the way it skewers 90s gangsta rap is done so perfectly, so accurately, it certainly outshines CB4, and I think it gives Spinal Tap a run for its money.I lowered the rating a bit, because it doesn't stand up to multiple viewings all that well, but this movie is sorely overlooked.

Loud, unclever satire that's about how loud and unclever rap music is. One of the most egregious cases of the pot calling the kettle black in cinema history. Somebody please confiscate Rusty Cundieff's DGA card and all his cameras
