"Okay so there's this 18 year old girl, who is a welder , but she's also a Go-Go dancer, but , hey have you guys seen Saturday Night Fever?!"

Made watchable primarily by a fantastic soundtrack & the very easy-to-look-at Beals, it's easy to see why so many critics hated this. To say the storyline is thin is an understatement as the silght story unspooling on screen seems more like a filmed outline w/ music video fillers than something based on a fleshed out script. The dance sequences were presumably fresh at the time but seem unimpressive now (esp in the finale's jarringly obvious use of a body double). The filmmakers got very lucky.

Lol at the part where Jennifer Beals is FUMIN’ MAD that the guy she’s banging pulls his connections to get her an audition. I got no pride bro; by all means, please pull them connections to help me out! I’d normally feel creepy commenting on WHAT A FEELING I got from an actress as young as Beals here, yet bizarrely I’m still younger than her romantic interest in the film, so fuck it: bod is smokin’. There’s a MANIAC, MANIAC in my pants! Gettin’ boners while watchin’ Flashdance!

It's a more childish version of Saturday Night Fever, but it kinda works on me. There's something really charming about it.

Jennifer Beals' character makes me furious when I watch this, and because the is the main character, there's a lot of time that I am furious during. She's insane, and because of how out of place her character seems at times, the rest of the film, which could be a great story, instead feels poorly written. Ugh!

(Viewed on 18/02/14): Flashdance almost plays like the watered down brainchild of Camille Paglia: a working class woman spends her days welding steel and her nights flexing her body made of steel. If Paglia wrote it though, Beals' character would have been an avid bookworm and a pole dancer in a strip club run by Robert Davi. There would have been no Cinderella style ending, no dancing school: she would be a proud 'slut' for life. The end result would have also been more interesting.

Jennifer Beals character really ruins this film.. She and only she made it sometimes terrible to watch with her paranoia "I don't need anyone"-shit. The rest of the film was pretty decent, however I had the feeling some things and scenes didn't fit in. I expected way more from this dancing-classic.

Part movie, part montage, part music video, part questionable romantic relationship. Watching this now, people aren't fantasizing about Beals; instead, they are fantasizing about finding a well-paying, full-time job.

Rebel chick gets rich boyfriend she doesn't appreciate, shoots herself in the foot over and over again, finally getting a chance at her dreams! You'd think one movie couldn't embrace so many tired cliches. The Jennifer Beals character is so "rebellious" she ends up being a cunt to just about everybody. An '80's kitsch classic.

This main character is a really inconsistent person. "I would never date my boss. Just kidding, I'd fuck him on the first date." "I can't believe you helped me get a dancing audition! I hate you! Just kidding, I love you!" Add to that a bunch of tertiary characters and unnecessary subplots for a movie that really doesn't seem to know where it's going. It's also painfully obvious that Jennifer Beals doesn't do one second of dancing.

Literally cult film even some of the best to come and go the dance scene in the film, I can say that. View, love the movie, as can be detected but not necessarily to be followed. Such a film is more exploding at the age of 20 Jennifer Beals 'in a more glaring a business is not really very interesting.

Very flashy and very trashy 80's flick with lots of sexuality. The whole rich man saving poor wild girl thing seems wrong to me. It is mildly entertaining and directing is alright, but I wouldn't watch it again.

Amazing music, dancing and striking lighting. But that’s it. The rest is a pretty mediocre (or just downright bad) 80´ dramatic-kind-of-romantic movie with boring characters and story. Also I can’t ignore the age difference, its fucking creepy.

This movie meant everything to me the year it came out, as I was a struggling dancer. Of course, like a battered pair of dance shoes, it's been battered about over the years and made fun of. I knew the woman that was the real dancer behind the face and wished she could have played the lead. She was pretty, but had a bit of an accent. Oh well.

Hasn't aged well AT ALL. The cook/comedian's jokes were cringeworthy. Didn't care about any of the characters. Found the romance boring. The best friend's character arc was ridiculous. Alex was supposed to be rebellious but just came off as crazy. 50 points for the excellent soundtrack and choreography, but that's about all it deserves.

First time viewing today. Having only seen clips, this was not at all as exciting or inspiring as I had hoped. I did like Alex's determination, & I cried when her mentor died, but c'mon, there is no way an 18 year old is a welder, a show girl, dates her rich boss, & has that cool of an apt. And the movie just ends! Does she get accepted? Does she marry her 20+ senior rich boss? Or does he toss her aside & she supports herself at Zanzibar until she eventually drowns herself in booze at 35?
